Came across this link. Check it out.. No we don't have a topic that says links. http://www.themotherhuddle.com/how-to-organize-fabric/

AlwaysQuilting 08-10-2011 04:35 AM

That's an idea I'd never had thought of. I'd need 50 of those little carts for my stash though

Sallyflymi 08-10-2011 04:40 AM

LOL. i thought that too but it would be great for larger pieces of material. Now if we can stack them we might be on to something.

raedar63 08-10-2011 04:44 AM

That would be great for a strip piecing project like a bargello.

Actually, we do. It's called "Links and Resources" - http://www.quiltingboard.com/s-4-1.htm

Click on the "Home" link above. You'll get a listing of the topics you are subscribed to. If "Links and Resources" is not one of them, you can get to it by clicking the "all sections" link. That will display all the sections of the board. This page allows you to jump to any section and manage your subscriptions - you can choose what sections are displayed on your homepage and therefore which ones show up in your recent topics listing.

Maybe design something like a cross between hanging file folders and this rack? They use the same concept for the frame :-).

booklady 08-10-2011 04:49 AM

If you have a closet you could do this. Use chain/rope whatever and additional rods to hang down and create multiple levels.

jean1941 08-10-2011 05:00 AM

A lady here while back was using file cabinets to store fabric in this same way only was out of light and dust and could lot more in same amount of floor space

eastermarie 08-10-2011 05:01 AM

You'd need a lot of space and larger pieces of fabrics but it certainly makes it easy to see and access.

I use the closet hanging slack racks to avoid taking up floor space...works great! Naomi

quiltymom 08-11-2011 03:37 AM

Very neat idea but I would have to have many of them

jitkaau 08-11-2011 04:52 AM

I've got one - bought it in K-Mart. However, I use it to hang craft stuff on that has to drip dry or set. It's good for that too.

CharlotteO 08-11-2011 06:05 AM

If you need 50, consider getting a filing cabinet. Hanging folders cut in half make great fabric holders. and depending on the file cabinet, you can get a lot of fabric in one 4 drawer cabinet.

I have never seen anything like that. Thanks for sharing.

jaciqltznok 08-11-2011 07:35 AM

I would need about 200 of these for my stash,, but instead, I use only ONE..for when I iron all the fabric for a project..once ironed the pieces go on the rack and then rolls over to the cutting station...pretty good...but now I have found one that is for ironing..old fashioned, it folds down..and has an ARM and you use hangers...much better cuz once I am done cutting, the armed rack folds up and goes under the bed!

pojo 08-11-2011 08:35 AM

I have some on hangers on a metal rack similar to the one in the picture but alot taller.

QuiltnLady1 08-11-2011 10:12 AM

Oh how I wish I had room for this --- it looks so nice.

ghquilter53 08-11-2011 11:13 AM

Here is one for only $17.00

Quiltaddict 08-11-2011 12:52 PM

Interesting if you have a small stash. I would need about 1,000 of them for my stash.

That is just what I was going to say....at least 50. Would be great for storing your larger cuts though.

donna13350 08-11-2011 02:52 PM

I can envision having hubby make me a larger one using closet poles...could easily be mounted and they are about 5 feet long! My mind is just spinning with the possibilities! You could probably get at least 4 tiers of poles to stack ....and what about putting one side on hinges so you can swing the rack out to get a better look? Have to go sketch now...really like this idea!

hmross 08-11-2011 04:32 PM

I never would have thought of that but such a clever idea.

Spuddy 11-12-2011 07:00 AM

This is great. Thanks
