Art Museum floor
1 Attachment(s)
I went to our local art museum yesterday. It was built in the late 1800's by a wealthy family and while I always love the art, I love the floors too. They are original to the building and are art too! And as you can see, great inspiration.

It's almost as though they were trying to say "quilt" to anyone who walks in. Are you planning a project around this pattern?

Looks like Block of the Month quilt.

That is amazing - wouldn't that be a fantastic project to draft and sew!

That large and small white and blue triangle border would look great on a quilt.

Almost all historical buildings have inspiration in the molding and tile work. Many quilters have created showstopping quilts based on stained glass windows, architecture, mosaics and tiles in cathedrals, art museums or buildings built prior to 1930 (especially ones that were intended for public access).
Some stunning examples are Judy Matheison's Bristol Stars quilt based on the floor tiles of the Bristol Cathedral in the UK https://www.pinterest.com/pin/565835140667068415/ and Nora McMeeking's Bella Bella quilts inspired by Italian mosaics http://www.bellabellaquilts.com/home.html Some very talented quilters here on the QB have posted pictures of their renditions of quilts based on Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t282874.html http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ign-t9117.html I have taken inspiration from the frames from Hudson River School paintings in the museum. I saw some great tile work in the restrooms at Hoover dam (very art deco!) and the molding, parquet wood flooring and trim work at a local mansion built pre civil war really got my creative juices flowing as well as Victorian wrought iron fences. Inspiration for quilts and quilting motifs are all around us. Good for you that you noticed and took a picture. I hope you make something great and share it with us. |
Those are amazing!

What an awesome floor. It's a shame the Museum isn't located close enough to all of us so everyone could visit and check out the floor.
