Thanks for the tour.

I have a barn quilt up on my garage. Dave Snow made it. It is 2x2. It is the Oregon Star. Here it is:

I don't have a barn but I really want a barn quilt. I am trying to decide if I dare hang one on the front of my house. I got a Nancys Notions catalog this week. They have the one's that are cut out of metal and are black at a good price. I would like to hang it on the front of my garage up near the peak of the roof. I want ot put a colorful one in the back on my patio. The only problem is I can't decide what blick to make.

While driving through Iowa on a family trip last summer, we saw two of these barn quilts and would have LOVED to see more!!! Next time, we'll take the WI route to MN (from SC). These are wonderful - thanks for the tour!

That's where I hung mine--on the garage - near the peak, right in the middle of the Capitol City of Minnesota - St. Paul. My mother is from Monroe, Wisconsin. Didn't know about the barn quilts there until I saw this!!!!!! I am going to make one for her - Card Tricks - her favorite block. I made one for my sister "Bear Tracks", for their lake home. They have bears on their property all the time. Hey, why can't we, in the city, have a barn quilt, too, right? I get a lot of compliments on it. My only problem is I can never remember the name of the block and I'll be darned if I'll take out a ladder and climb up and look at the back to see what the name is (at least I did that and date it)! Every quilter should have one on their home or garage so we get to know who you are!!!!! Edie

My barn quilt that I painted is on the small building behind my house where I have my quilting machines.
It's the picture on my avatar.

I have a home in Shipshewana Indiana in the heart of Amish Country and there are barn quilts all around Shipshewana and throughout the area; on retail buildings, homes, etc. On the back roads I recently found an Amish shop that makes them for purchase. Since I am not very good at woodworking, I plan on purchasing one my next trip out.
During the summer, Shipshewana offers a quilt garden tour that you can take; the quilted gardens are just beautiful!

Love it! I pass one every weekend when I go get the grandkids.

If you look towards the beginning of this thread, you'll see my barn quilt on my garage. Dave Snow made it. Type in Dave Snow barn quilts in your search engine and he'll pop up. He's very reasonable. There is a star for every state. Carol Doak has a paper piecing book with the 50 stars of each state. I got my star from that book. You can find your state by going to Google Pictures, I think that's what it's called. But you can find your state's star and use it. It's kind of cool to use your state's star!

Barn Quilts - the best part of building the barn quilt is how excited my husband is about helping with this. He will retire in January. (I'll give him a little down time) and then we can start building and painting. I have the pattern narrowed down to do designs. I will have an instillation crew prepared for our arrival and then just take my dad for a drive out to the farm that day. Did I mention he is 90? and still very active. We have seen barn quilts in Iowa, Kentucky, Tennesse and Indiana when visiting relatives earlier this year. A woman's work belongs beside the man's work. It was my grandmother's quilts that kept me warm in the winter in a house with no heat upstairs. What a great tribute!

I've never heard of barn quilts until this thread. They are really neat looking! Wish that would catch on here in Texas. We live in the country, but don't have a barn...only a second garage separate from the house to hold all of our yard equipment, tools, etc. But, I could make a case for a "garage quilt"...LOL :o
