Featherweights rule! Lucky, lucky, lucky you!!!!! And what a score on your fabric... batiks? Wow!

note about the "great" batiks at WM...they are not dyed, but done with paint...with dye on top, meaning they bleed like crazy...I tested 6 colors last week, none were worth the trouble it took to stop the bleeding! The PAINT also makes them difficult to sew. The stitches are very uneven!

Which would explain why the fabric is only $3.00 a yard. Sometimes you truly get what you pay for.

What is it about the paint that makes the stitches uneven?

Yes I've noticed that our local Wal Mart is carrying some fabrics at 3$ per yard and they seem to be patterns that you don't find at JoAnns or the LQS-have used many in my quilts and they are just as lovely as the expensive fabrics I have used

Wow...What a deal....I lived in Waterloo, NY for a couple of years....There was not a Wall-Mart there at that time..
Sounds like you struck it big time...Congrats to you for your fabric find and quiting smoking......

I just wish my WM carried fabric on bolts. I'm visiting my son in TX next week and will look for more of the last fabric I bought off the bolt at my WM; I love it and can't find it.....if I don't find it in TX I'll post a pic asking those of you who are lucky enough to have bolts to see if yours has my fabric. It was a staple fabric that they always had so I'm hopeful!

Thanks for the heads up.

You and I are on the same wave length. Not every Wal Mart fabric is wonderful, but many are good enough that whenI get them in a quilt, no one will question from whence they came. froggyintexas

We were in Geneva yesterday. Be sure to have lunch at Uncle Joe's Pizzeria. North Genesee Street at Avenue C.

Congratulations on quitting smoking! A wonderful way to celebrate with a FW and fabric. The best part is, you'll have more years to enjoy using your FW!

I guess I better head on over to WalMart! I am an ex-smoker also. I am so glad I quilt.

The batiks I bought from Wal Mart are not painted. They are dyed. I have some batiks with me purchased from a LQS, and I can not tell the difference; however, I am not an expert on material.

ILoveToQuilt 06-19-2012 12:07 PM

My local WM didn't have them...said they "might" be getting more fabric in, but they never know what's coming from the warehouse. The fabric dept. is growing, so I will keep my fingers crossed that they get the batiks.

Congrats on quitting...it's an uphill battle.

Hi: I never buy Walmart fabric. I do like going to Hobby Lobby; especially for my backings. They often have great "cheater" panels for baby quilts. For now, the best place for me to go shopping is in my stash. How did ever get so much "stuff"?
