Yep. This isn't where I found the link I got the idea from but it will show you what I mean.
http://suttongrace.blogspot.com/2010...n-storage.html I don't like all the boxes, tried the pieces of tubing didn't work for me,don't have the patience, have the bobbin ring which is great by the way,the bobbin tower great idea don't know how well it works but too expensive for me with all my bobbins. So I figured I would try it. You can see the colors, they are not going anywhere ( I waved mine around in the air dropped it every which way.) It can be cut to any length you want, put in a box, hung like that woman did or just dropped in a drawer. Yes there are tail ends, but if you put them in with the thread coming off the top and turn, the clippy part will catch the end. And best of all they are cheap!! I love cheap!! I got black ones to try simply because that was the color I could find in a smaller package. They also have clear ones, white ones and other colors. I got mine off ebay but I will tell you it came from SAM's club . So save the shipping if you have one near. I won't be a bit surprised if someone on this board already came up with this though. :-) |
Great idea!

If you could take this idea and package it for quilting, you could make a mint.[/quote] I wish I could but I didn't come up with it. And it really is so cheap and easy to get. I like the idea that it can be stored anyway you want. |
Hmmmmm. The tubing works wonderfully for me, I think I just lucked out on the right size.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing.

It was such a pain for me to cut it and try to get it even so it would fit around the bobbins right . I got the 1/2 inch.I had to keep trimming so it would fit inbetween the top and bottom of the bobbim. but then again I have trouble seeing out of one eye so that threw things off too. Then the bobbins were still loose.
I wanted something that kept them all in one place and was cheap and easy. This fit the bill for me. |
It's been posted on the board before and has been in several quilt magazines in the reader's tip section. It works great. I take the colored plastic bindings off old cookbooks and booklets I found at thrift stores for pennies each. It's hard to find the assorted pretty color plastic spirals. I cut some into sections to hold four or five bobbins to take to classes/workshops. I stapled some to a thin wood board and made a rack for my bobbins to hang on the wall. Easy to pick one bobbin out and put back.

I've been covering mine with the little fuzzy knitted pony tail holders. They are really tiny and just fit on the bobbin. I cover the bobbin with the same color as the thread. I've been storing them in a plastic container but still have to look thru them all to see if you have the right color. Sounds like I might have to find these binders. Maybe Staples would have them?
