Binding, a little different way to sew corners.

Seen this link on another board and watched it. I do it the same almost, do not cut the little overlap of the binding as he shows in the video, am going to try this, maybe the corners will be a little less bulky and my machine will not cause me problems.

That is cool!!! Hopefully I'll remember it when i finish my current project! LOL!!

Jingle 07-19-2013 05:27 AM

Wouldn't work for me, I use doubled binding. I don't like the look of sewn on binding.

lizzyq 07-19-2013 05:30 AM

Great tutorial! Thank you for the link!!

DebraK 07-19-2013 05:31 AM

excellent tip! Thanks!

Belfrybat 07-19-2013 05:32 AM

Hmm. Different indeed, plus it looks easy. I've been clipping the corners, which he definitely says not to do. Which is a holdover from all the years of clothing sewing.

pocoellie 07-19-2013 05:40 AM

Thanks for the link, I've been doing it that way for several years.

starshine 07-19-2013 06:00 AM

Thanks for sharing this tip. I think it will help me too.

Good tip, thanks for it. Someone mentioned "double binding"---what is that?

quiltstringz 07-19-2013 07:18 AM

thanks for sharing! I will be trying this for sure

Holice 07-19-2013 08:08 AM

That method has been around for years. Kaye Wood introduced it in the 1980. However she didn't clip. I watched it and noted he didn't give any guide how to make sure you sew to the exact point at the corner. If you don't sew exactly the seam allowance then the mitre doesn't turn good.

Love it and so easy. Thanks for posting.

tutt 07-19-2013 12:18 PM

Excellent! I hope I remember to try it :) Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much for the link. I have a magazine called "Celebrations" by Patrick Lose where he describes that technique. I could never quite figure it out. Now I see it, and it seems so simple. I will definitely try that next time! Thanks again!

mimi=17 07-20-2013 04:16 AM

Good info,THANKS

Lyncat 07-20-2013 05:30 AM

I can't wait to try that technique. Looks easy and accurate!

sewready 07-20-2013 07:30 AM

This is a great tip! I have never been totally satisfied with my quilt corners, this technique seems to be what I need.

duckydo 07-20-2013 07:43 AM

Great tutorial... I am gonna give it a whirl

MartiMorga 07-20-2013 07:59 AM

I am going to try to remember to do this, also.

roserips 07-20-2013 10:06 AM

Excellent tip and I will be trying it out today as I am sewing down a binding and have several more to do as well. Thank-you so much.

granny64 07-20-2013 12:07 PM

I learned this technique in one of Alex Andersen's books. It is so much easier than doing it the old way.

craftynell 07-20-2013 12:31 PM

Thanks a bunch!!!

klgreene 07-20-2013 01:52 PM

I always knew there had to be a way of making those mitered corners look good. I can miter, not a problem, but oh boy am I ready to try this. Now I have to hurry and finish one of my many projects. Thanks so much for finding this tut.

ktbb 07-20-2013 02:47 PM

I've been doing it this way for several years except I've never cut off the wedge and guess I'll try it. I found a neat tool that helps me know when to stop...perfect binding miter by Glenna...( http://www.quiltsnstuff.net/ ). I've purchased mine at quilt shops but not every quilt shop carries them.

And Jingle, it works on double binding.

SewExtremeSeams 07-20-2013 03:05 PM

He did say to stop the exact seam distance, so if you sewed 1/4 inch seam, then you would stop 1/4 inch from the end.

WOW I really like those corners and this was a great video to watch. Thanks for posting the linkhere.

Wonnie 07-21-2013 05:25 AM

Yeah! Maybe this wil improve my bindings! Thanks for the link!

judylg 07-21-2013 05:48 AM

I am always working towards a more perfect corner. Does it always happen? No, but maybe with this it will be closer. Will see.

sweetlummi 07-21-2013 05:49 AM

thank you for that . I got lost in it all they are good shows

BettyGee 07-21-2013 06:06 AM

Many thanks for the link. I'm about to quilt and bind my latest project and believe I will try his tip. I've struggled with getting a perfect 45 degree angle on each and every quilt so maybe this will help me do it right.

I don't understand what you are saying here. I use double fold (french) binding. Machine sew it to the top of the quilt, using the 45degree sewn corner like is shown in video. Then I hand sew the binding to the back. Works for me. How do you do your binding?
Interested!

LynnVT 07-21-2013 06:11 AM

Wow, such a small thing to do that should make a big difference. I like his advice about what to clip out and what not! Thanks for posting this.

How does doubled binding work?

I like his hint about cutting off that little triangle........but I did notice he does not use walking foot, or does his machine have the built in one?
