Binding Tutorial Using the Flat Fell Foot
I found this very interesting. She also talks about other feet she tried that did not work as well.

That is very interesting. I might have to try it on something small first, like a potholder or something. Hmmm.

thanks for sharing

This looks great. Have to search for one of those to fit my machines.

Pretty cool, I think I'll try it on a pot holder or placemat too - if I have that foot with my machine! I think I do!
Thanks for sharing with us all here. |
I'm going to try this too. Thanks for posting.

Awesome! I will give it a try! I have a couple of these feet! Thank you for sharing.

Looks great but guess it's only for folks with Bernina machines. Would have been great if Janome had it as well. Our loss Nice technique & tute

You are my hero for sharing this! I really like the look of a hand-finished binding, mostly because I have yet to see one done on the machine that doesn't show every little waver, jig and jot of the sewing. I'm sure there are quilters out there who have this down to a science but I haven't and I don't know them. But I also like the look of a "well-turned" machine stitched quilt binding. This is the answer for me. I can't wait to get this foot. Bernina feet are very expensive and I've been tempted by specialty feet before but didn't pull the trigger because I wouldn't use them enough to justify the cost. This is the one I'm willing to invest it. Thanks again...so much.

I am still going to buy the quilt binding set for charity quilts, but if this works, I may used this technique for personal family and gift quilts. Actually, it looks as if this is not the correct foot. I have sent an email to Janome to find out. |
Thank You. I am taking a class on how to use all the different feet on a Janome. I will add this to my notebook.
|
If the Janome ladies find out anything, please share it with us. I'll be waiting in the wings, near my Janome 8900 :) to give it a try
|
I actually saw this tutorial about 6 months ago and went to my Bernina shop and bought the foot.. it went reasonably well for the most part but there is still an art to doing it correctly. If anyone else works with this and runs into trouble or has questions, privately message me and we can talk. I can tell you what I encountered, etc.

Of course one foot I do not have! Always something new to learn with these Bernina machines.

Latest word that I received from Janome: "The Hemmer foot can be used to sew flat Felled seams on sheers. See the link below:
http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/...eams_on_Sheers The Hemmer foot would not help when sewing Flat Felled seams on heavy fabric." and "There are many excellent videos and tutorials on the internet that would help you sew a Flat Felled Seam without a specialty foot. Here is one that we like: http://www.coletterie.com/tutorials-...at-felled-seam " So, Janome doesn't make a flat fell foot like Bernina, so I guess that those of us with Janomes will have to try these methods. |
Thanks for sharing the info you got on behalf of Janome machine owners....appreciate your efforts :)
|
Brilliant thinking!! I will definitely try it.

I just looked for the flat felling foot and Amazon has a listing for a generic one that is supposed to fit some Janome's.
Might be worth a try? |
