Those are going to look great! And I love black and white with red, so that will be wonderful for you son-in-law.
I was also surprised how fast the half square triangles went! |
Since all I have cut are the strips for the HST (the red strips, not the neutrals) I am hoping that y'all are right about how fast they go <g>!
Miss Sue! One of my friends gave me a tip for when I went on shop hops - - that was when she picked up the neutrals. Isn't it interesting how differently the different shop owners treat and supply neutrals? Of course, as one of my good friends reminded me - - in SOME parts of the world, red is considered a neutral. LOL <wave> |
I was playing with the Easy Angle ruler and I am just wondering... Why is it that they only give the directions for using the corner with the black triangle when you can use the other corner and get the exact same size triangle? Just curious...

It is almost Friday............. and the next clue will be posted. I am SO ready to start putting this together!
|
me too!! I'm hoping everyone sleeps in tomorrow so I can have some sewing time!
|
Part 6 is posted. Grab your 600 hst and go for it.
http://quiltville.blogspot.com/ Does anyone know if there is a different ruler that does quarter square triangles like the companion angle ruler? I don't really want to cut 86 3 1/4" squares twice on the diagonal, but I can if I have to. |
Well, it IS a start on putting it all together. What a great mystery. And this is fairly easy, thankfully, as I still have 200 HSTs and 20 string blocks to catch up on. Should be able to get it all done on Monday and Tuesday before my son and his wife come to town on Wedneday! I hope so anyway. May even get a start on it today if I get all the baking done. Got to get off the computer ............

I'm waiting for my CD to get here that will allow me to make my perfect HST and QST. So, I may be last across the finish line.

URGENT! ERROR in PART 6!
In saying we will sew brown triangles to both ends of the PGP three set, she says we are sewing a TRAPEZOID. Her picture of the pieces at the very end, shows a PARALLELOGRAM. There is not a distinct picture / directions at the point of sewing the second brown triangle, and this is very likely to mislead others who know what a trapezoid is and do not look closely at the last picture! :-( |

Well, I finished my string blocks last night (finally). I have only 200 of Part 5 half square triangles done out of the 600. So I am behind too. Next week should be a much easier week. I think I can get all caught up by next Friday! Merry Christmas everyone!
|
Appaerently Bonnie has corrected the error on the blog directions to read Parallelogram, but the pdf file still says trapezoid, so please correct this if you are printing out directions.

So....what does everyone think of the blocks she's posted?? I got my CD and and finished all my 600HST, but now my machine needs to go in for service. So, I'm doubting I want to tackle the rest on my back-up.

I was able to get a few blocks done. It's a bit more vibrant than I expected, but I like it. It's all going slowly though. I tried to sew a little on New Year's Eve but kept sewing the HST's on upside down. So I gave it up for 2010. 2011 has been better to me so far, not a single mistake yet!!
|
Sue, that is going to be beautiful!

 I also have a bunch of rag quilts that need assembling, so I could do those too. And I can use my back-up machine for that. |
I'm not in love with the pink/red/green combo. but maybe once I start assembling it, I'll change my mind.

It looks fun and such a good way to use up scraps. Only just found it, but will be starting it in a few days after haunting our charity (thrift or goodwill) shops for lots of neutrals.
Shirts will be useful and have found a use for all that shirting I bought but never got around to using. |

Well here is what my 2 blocks look like. I sewed the two last night to see what they would look like. They are not cropped yet.
I have a problem with Block 1 as it measures 10 3/4" rather than 11". I have only put one together so will see how some of the others come out. If they all measure that, then I will cut Block 2 to 10 3/4" instead of 11". |

MY MISTAKE -- you are correct ... eleanor burns says that if the block is within a quarter inch of what it is supposed to measure, you can stretch it ... when I made one of the Victory Quilts, I had a similar problem, and she was correct - - the difference was easily solved with a little pressure. <wave> finished size of the blocks should be 10.5" |

I'm very happy to say, I've not bought anything for this quilt either-it's all from my scraps and stash. The problem is, I 've made more scraps than have used them, I think!
