Check this out on Facebook
You might be interested in what Pennsylvania is advertising on Face book to encourage those interested in quilting to visit their state this summer. Sounds great, doesn't it? I found it on Facebook under: Pennsylvania Row by Row Quilt Shop Hop. Enjoy.

I didn't see anything special. I must be missing something.
|
It says "Join Pennsylvania Shop Hop. No fees. Visit shops from 7/1 to 9/2 and receive free pattern from each. Mix and match rows to create your own unique quilt." People often post requests when they are planning a trip for names of quilt shops or fabric stores they might visit while there.
Good for Pennsylvania advertising this on their travel/leisure post. I am hoping that someone on this board will be able to post a finished quilt from their travel. Should be interesting. |
I do not use Facebook OR Twitter

Our town could use taking a page from Pa. Advertise tourist attractions. This is what it is. Has nothing to do with facebook mentality. It was just used as an advertising tool.
|
While I don't post on facebook I find it is a great way to keep tabs on what my kids & nices and nephews are doing because they do post on facebook. They also post wonderful pictures of my grandkids and great nices and nephews.
It is a tool that I am happy for. |
I don't have a facebook account, but I do Pinterest. I am careful what I pin as I don't want to infringe on anyone (unless it has the pin it; I don't pin ! If there is an item I am interested in I send it to the favorites!LOL).
Its a great social media just not for me tho ... |

You can google the info and some of the individual shops come up so you would be able to "visit" them online without heading to FB. Here's the 1st one I saw http://friendshipstarquiltshop.com/ |
You do not have to join, sign up or post on facebook to read the PA row by row thread. You can enjoy pictures, see names of stores, see the store's row pattern, etc.
https://www.facebook.com/PARowbyRow/timeline If you do want to comment, you do need to sign up, but if you are leery of FB, for whatever reason, you can still find good info on threads that are open to the public. |

Thank you for posting this link, I just might have to "hop" over to PA since the border is only an hour away. It's always fun to find new places to visit. I am a major fan of both FB and Pinterest and I don't understand why it is so terrible that companies use all the tools they have to reach their audience? It is no different than choosing between using newspaper ads or email newsletters. Most places use all of them that they can afford. It just so happens that using FB is much cheaper than a print ad, and doesn't use paper.

Will have to check it out.

Thank You . I love going on shop hops. I live in N.Y. but close to Pa. so I can visit several. Its also nice to see them on facebook. Sometimes its the only way we know about shops not in our area.
PS---I use facebook but don't think I have a facebook mentality whatever that is. Its a nice way to connect with people you don't visit everyday as well of finding info. such as this. |
If you don't want to use Facebook then don't. But lots of us do... so please don't put us down as "Facebook Mentalities". It's a nice way to keep up with family and friends when they live too far away to see them often.

There are never fees for shop hops because they are counting on you visiting each shop listed, to collect a pattern or whatever their gimmick is, enter for give-a-ways and door prizes and , yes, shop shop shop at each stop. There is sometimes a shop hop quilt with each shop offering their own kits with their own fabric/colorways for you to buy. They are fun, but very expensive when you add up the cost of the gas for the travel, the expense of all the shopping that you do.

i have a facebook page, but not a" facebook mentality", whatever that is. i'm 62, i have children and dgd in another state and country. it's a free way to see and hear what they are doing. i don't resent that my daughter-in-law posts pictures there because i receive notification in my e-mail to check my page. i try to avoid the strictly commercial stuff, just not interested in that facet of it. this is just one more tool to keep in touch with friends and family.
