Cleopatra's fan quilt block
 

Besides Robert Kaufman's web site, does any one know where I can get a free copy of the cleopatra's fan block with templates? I really like this block, but his templates have some unusual cuts in them at the intersections, so putting the block together requires a bit of guess work. I'm really not very happy with the results, I think another designers pattern may be easier to piece. I know there are a couple of web sites that sell the templates, but they're quite pricey. More than I'd want to pay, anyway. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!!!!

I bought a pattern called lady Almina by Downton abbey from Needle in a Hayes Stack. looks like the same one to me.

You should be able to download it from Kaufman's site, it was/is a free pattern.

Oops, missed that part that you wanted something free. for a block this complex, I would spring for acrylic, or post in the in search of area to see if you can get a set that's been used.

i agree..this is quite tricky...shar of heartland did have a video on YouTube demoing this-may still be there. I ordered the templates and pattern...one if this year's to dos....

Thanks everyone for your input. I would have no problem at all buying the templates for this quilt block if I was making a quilt. However, all I wanted to sew was a table topper to use up some scraps, so I can't justify spending $30-$40 dollars for templates knowing I'll never use them again. Checked Quilters Cache, but, surprisingly, they don't have anything close to what I'm looking for. Oh well..... nice try anyway.

I have successfully traced the templates from my monitor. But you have to find a full size template first. After you find it, just hold a piece of tracing paper to the monitor and lightly trace the template form. This takes a little practice but it isn't difficult. Once you have that transfer the template pattern to cardboard (I use comic book backing left over from fabric holders). Works pretty well for me. Good luck.
