I don't necessarily agree with all she is saying but the article is a good one and explains a lot.

Thanks for posting. This is a pretty good article. Will have to check some of the links later. I don't do an Etsy 'shop'.
Just do 1-2 craft show per year to thin out what I have made besides the blanket drive at Christmas.

Interesting article...but I don't have time to sew enough quilts for family and friends...let alone think about selling them. : )

What a great article by several of my favorite designers! (Seriously check out Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness, best bag making patterns EVER!)
Recently a good friend asked me to make her some burp cloths and bibs for a baby shower she was attending. I agreed and when she said "how much?" I struggled and said "eh, $20 bucks should do it. She was like, "well I hope I am getting the friends and family discount!" Because she knows that covered supplies only. I just hate pricing my work!

Just followed your link and jumped into a quilting world that I didn't know existed. Great to see so many young people using blogs and etsy to share their quilting! Time for me to explore some more. Thanks for the link!

I absolutely love quilting, but I consider some of the commercialization of it flim flam. I made a conscious decision to recycle whatever I can whenever I can while I enjoy quilting. I may be an exception to the general "quilter," but my position has been carefully thought out. I do not chase the latest lines of expensive cottons. Instead, I spend my creative juices trying to decide how to best re-use what might otherwise go to waste. The article paints quilters with a broad brush as big-spending hobbyists, but doesn't consider the thousands of women out there hooked on the joy of craftsmanship and creativity. Price and worth are not the same in my estimation.

How many of you fell on the floor laughing at the ''seriously $6,000 in fabric'' line ?

great link plus I watched the two videos and they were enjoyable and informative too. Thanks for posting
