If you crochet you can also use patterns for filet crochet...works the same.

I use cross stitch patterns all the time for twister quilt blocks! You could probably use plastic canvas patterns as well. I think I'd use different prints of the same color family for any blocks that are next to each other so it doesn't read just plain fabric; it would give it some interest. Good luck. If you decide to try it let us know how it works. Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for all the great ideas and links!

I crochet but don't know what a filet stitch is, I'll look it up.

Mimmie I was thinking different cat prints next to each other might be cute. My sister is a "cat lady" and I haven't made a quilt for her yet.

A friend in my guild has made many quilts using cross stitch patterns. She uses 1" squares - 1/2" finished squares for each square in the cross stitch pattern. I know she breaks up the pattern into many sections, then sews the sections together to get the whole top. In some instances she's even divided a square in half on the diagonal to get some more detail.

That is too too funny! I saw the very same picture and thought the very same thing! I haven't gotten beyond the thinking about it stage, but I sure think it will work and be cute!

I did one, a long time ago. I used 1 inch squares. I used solid fabrics. Picked my fabric colors by mayching the color of embroidery floss it said to use. It was very labor intensive. But they are beautiful.

I think it would be easy. I think I would do a few modifications to make the lines a bit smoother

Of course you can. I use to make patterns with pc stitch and they were used for quilting, xs and crochet
