Craft in America: Quilts (PBS)
I haven’t seen this posted yet so apologies if it had already.
PBS aired a show about quilts on December 27, 2019 that is phenomenal. Here’s the YouTube link in case you want to see it, or see it again. https://youtu.be/OWtboRxFtgs Crafts in America: Quilts |
It had been posted before, but it was during the new format turnover and was lost with many others. I watched it at the link and it was very interesting.

I got it recorded and watched it later. very good show!
|
I enjoyed it too!
|
I've saved the link to watch later.

Watched it, didn’t like it. While they showed some traditional quilts at the Lincoln Quilt Center, the stories were about art quilts and social statement quilters. Was really disappointed in this one.
|
I was also disappointed in it. Trying to nail down exactly why, and I think Cindi hit the nail on the head - I'm so done with all of the social statements that have invaded every single aspect of our lives anymore. This is the third quilt documentary I've seen in the last 3-5 years and they all strike the same tone. I would have enjoyed a couple of stories about quilt guilds, just your regular garden-variety guild. Or how about filming a group of kids over time as they learn to quilt, be able to watch their creative progress and see how their projects turn out? That would be fun! What about a day (or a week or a month) in the life of a quilt shop owner, and the challenges they face in today's marketplace? Maybe follow the process of how fabrics are designed (or patterns!), every step from the imagination of the designer until the product hit the shelves. Interview some old-timers about how quilting was in the old days. Ken Burns should hire me to collaborate with him, I've got a ton of ideas!! :D

I have watched a few episodes on YouTube this evening, really interesting and wonderful artists. Total surprise.
|
Yep, I completely agree with Peckish
|
I just tagged it to watch later. Probably tonight when things are very settled.
