I love her videos she is a good teacher.

I love this video. I've watched many other to show the technique on how to join the strips together but this is the first that's made it so simple. Thank you Flowergurl for posting this and I've saved it to my desktop for future reference until I get this task down to memory.

Her "The CraftyGemini" techniques are always so simple to understand. She doesn't get so technical you get lost in the process. She teaches in "my" terms.

I wondered why she left such a small space to attach her two piecing for binding together. I was surprised she sewed a straight seam and did not do a diagonal seam as she did when attaching the strips. Diagonal seams are preferred since the bulk of the seam in spread out in a much larger area.

my thought too...on diagonal finish seam...I think I figured out how to do that from F&P mag or EB book....long ago.....

I like her too. But, I do agree that its better to sew the last seam on a diagonal. Its not that hard once you get the hang of it, or get the binding tool like I did. ;)

As the old saying goes there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Some find this method easier to understand. Do what works best for you.

Here are some pics to show how to sew your binding ends together diagonally. In the pics I am Using binding strips at 2 1/2 inches wide. Not only did she sew the straight seam, but she never pressed it open. At that point there are at least 21 layers of fabric at that spot. Three for the back, batt and top (with perhaps a seam or two extra from that), then three layers of doubled over binding with two layers of seam for each layer of binding. A good way to break a needle, and that would not look very nice.

That video may be old, as there are other videos that show how to sew the two binding ends together on the bias. It's really quite simple and easy once you do it a few times.

I press a triangle at the beginning of the binding, and when I get around to the end, I cut the last binding tail exactly even with the bottom of the triangle. The binding is now overlapping just as much as the binding is wide. No matter how wide your binding is, that measurement is always correct. Pick up those two ends, place them right sides together, twist them so that they are at right angles to each other, and sew on that line from one corner to the other.
Press that seam open (finger pressing is OK here) and you should see a square. Now trim the extra triangles off that square, fold it back the way it belongs making sure the seam stays open, and your binding lays perfectly flat.
