Tears, yes, but joyful tears. May we all be blessed by your story Dave. Hopefully, we will be inspired to do something like this for someone else. You know what, I think we do... Think of all the quilters on here who do so much for others... military and family issues. Yes, Quilters are wonderful!!!!! May this new year find us all blessed.

It was a wonderful thing you did for Liz. But, I am so sad that she passed away, I didn't know. She was a big part of my love of quilts. Since 2003. I am still not any good, but she will be sadly missed by all the quilting world.

Bless you for your caring and loving hearts. During your busiest time of the year, you went above and beyond for someone you felt was a good customer and friend, without knowing the urgency, and it speaks volume about the kind of folks you are...Good people. Thank you for sharing, I still have tears in my eyes. You have made it possible for your friend to leave a wonderful legacy to comfort and warm her family.

Wow, you were such a blessing to her in her time of need. I teared up as I read the last of the article, so touching!

candlequilter 12-31-2010 01:20 AM

Wow, I saw this listed on the 24th but didn't read it until today. And I am so thankful that I didn't read it til today because on the 24th Christmas Eve that was exactly one year ago since my dad past away and I was having a rough enough day as it was. Losing someone is always hard enough but at Christmas time just seems to make it so much harder. What you and your wife did was beyond words. I can imagine what impact your selfless act had on that family. I hadn't got my longarm yet when my dad past away, but I also do hand carved candles so I made hand carved candles for all of my brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and aunts and uncles that I gave them at dads funeral which was on New Years Eve (a year ago today). That was one of the hardest things that I have done - sitting there carving those candles and putting dads picture on them while the tears streamed down my face. I got my longarm in January just a few short weeks after dad past and my first project that I did was to get involved with quilting American Hero quilts for the military in Afghanastan. I quilted 82 quilts in 49 days in honor of what would have been my dads 82nd birthday. Each and every one of those quilts that I quilted help me with my grieving process as I was thinking of dad the whole time that I worked on them.

Your act of kindness will always be treasured not only by the people here but by one special lady in heaven. But I am sure you already know this.

Thanks,
Sherryl

auntiehenno 01-01-2011 10:32 PM

Dave, you and yout wife are such blessed people to have been involved in this "Love Story". This is indeed the true meaning of Christmas and both of you are Christmas Angels.

NanaCsews2 02-23-2011 07:46 AM

I too loved watching Fons and Porter for years and knew about Liz's retirement. What an honor to have your story printed! I still have tears coming down my face...
Your story is what quilting is all about-it is the reason I started sewing so many years ago, and the reason I got started in quilting. Quilting-the telling of the story, and the giving behind it.

quilting memaw 02-25-2011 04:26 PM

What a touching Christmas Story. She must have been a wonderful mother! And a very special friend she had...the two of you. God bless you both....now I need to find a hand towel...can not stop crying! Darn hormones!
