I found really good instructions on how to make a portable design wall. It is at www.moonlightquilters.org I'm going to have hubby get the materials and make me one. I can't get down on the floor anymore and this can be used propped up against a wall or put on a large table.

Where is it on the website? I looked but didn't see it. Probably didn't click the right button! :(

I just made myself a design wall, too. I used a plastic flannel backed table cloth and velcro. Velcro is on the top of the blinds (not actually on the blinds)in one of the rooms our grandkids use when they come. It works well. If you decide to do this, though, make sure you get a strong velcro. If the velcro isn't strong enough, your design wall will fall down. I found that out the hard way. When the kids come, I can take the design wall down, roll it up and store it in the garage.

I know you will enjoy having a design wall. It makes a very big difference for me!

Under Tip of the Needle, look to the right hand side for a list.

Thank you!

I like the flannel backed vinyl tablecloth idea. This probably would be cheaper than buying flannel to use.

Thanks for the design board pattern. I'm going to get my husband to make one for our quilting group. Also on this site I found some detailed instructions for scallop edges/binding that look like they might be just what I've been looking for. Thanks!

I've been wondering how I could make me a design wall here in my small house. I finally figured that I could use the wooden valences over all the windows in the house. In the sewing room I can make (from wire hangers maybe) some curved wires that will hook over the valences, and hang down long enough to wrap around a long, thin piece of (balsa?) wood. I can tack flannel over it and when I'm finished, take it down, wind it up and stick it in the closet.
The only thing is, I have no idea of how strong the wood valance is, but my 12 pound cat has traveled over the one in the front room for years and it's not even bent yet.
Tried pinning stuff to the drapes and the pin holes still show up against the bright sun light.

I too use a flannel backed tablecloth....works like a charm!
