Do You Buy Designer Fabric From Spoonflower?
 

I first heard about Spoonflower on this board a few years ago, when they were just getting started. The big draw at that time was that you could design a custom print and they would put it on fabric for you. Well, Spoonflower has really grown since then and there are literally thousands of designers on there offering their custom designs. I've never bought any of their printed fabrics. Have you? If so, what is the quality like?

I have not but have been so tempted. I have been also tempted to make my labels and send it it for a yard or so of just labels that I can cut and use. The custom designer fabrics are also a temptation!

Too pricey for me, but they are beautiful fabrics.

While I’ve not ordered designer fabric, I just received some personal pictures I had printed on fabric through Spoonflower (which printed fantastic, by the way!) and I also created labels for the memory quilts I’m making and had them printed on a separate FQ. I figured why waste the rest of the fat quarter, so I made some personal labels for me in Photoshop and uploaded them to fill in the rest of the fabric. I was able to get fifteen 4x6” labels on a FQ for $9.98 (they were having a sale). They look awesome! I say go with it and give it a try. You can do a “test run” on a FQ inexpensively. The fabric is actually white, my picture didn’t turn out so well....

I am not buying much fabric now. I am using up my stash. Only buying solids and blenders to go with my stash.

I have designed and printed fabric from Spoonflower. Twice actually. The first time, I didn't pay attention to the size of the graphic somewhere and the seahorses were about a foot tall in a repeated design. The color was fabulous, I was just wanting smaller ones. I don't have a picture of the quilt I made because my friend loved it, so it's hers now.
The second time, I was more pleased with my fabric. I uploaded coloring pages that I scanned into my computer. The detail is amazing. It wasn't cheap, so I choose wisely when printing yardage.
I ordered the swatches, 6 x 8" for 5 dollars to make a quilt from each daughters childhood art pictures. Vibrant!

I finally gave in and ordered a designer fabric that I could not find anywhere else (yellow roses and honey bees) for a special quilt. I didn’t get a lot, but I will let you know what the quality is when I get it. I am so sorely tempted to get my grandmother ‘s recipes and mom’s recipes printed out.

I have designed on spoonflower and I’ve ordered designer fabrics. They have a range of fabrics to choose from so you ( to a point) decide on the quality you receive. Read the descriptions so you know what you are getting. I’ve been very happy- the prints are vibrant and beautiful. I ordered swatches so I could choose what I wanted after making a mistake once- I had used photos from a trip to Maine and ordered fat quarters- the ones I received were very heavy/ stiff. ( the fabric I chose was a canvas I didn’t realize . ) They made good bags, but not good for the quilt I had planned. No biggie, I learned a lesson and ordered good quilting fabrics next time through. I’ve ordered great outdoor quality fabrics for table clothes on my deck table... some people do ( steer away) due to the price but you are receiving designer original fabrics .
ive seen a couple well known designer/ quilters sell their fabrics for $60+ a yard- I feel that Spoonflower is very reasonable and worth it.

My quilt guild here in Mooresville, NC had some fabric printed from Spoomflower last fall with the logo of our quilt show to be help this coming October, Boo Hoo we had to cancel the show but the fabric is absolutely beautiful. Wish I could remember what was planned for this panel, but I think it was printed so that each piece could be cut apart - maybe for winders? i have no idea what the cost was but a quilter will just have to decide if the cost is reasonable for their project.

Thanks everyone. (Sorry, I just now found my thread after it had been moved.) I really want to create my own print that fits my home decor. I'm going to give Spoonflower a try on my own design level first and then, if it goes well, order from others. I really like their concept.
