Easiest method of putting ends together for binding...... by far!

Most of you have probably seen this, but it was a revelation to me. I bought binding tools 'til I was blue and tried everything to get those final ends together, this changed my life and SO easy, works every time.

Watched it often. Great tute!

this is the method I've been using for years-I've never had a problem with it. I first learned about it on Heather Bailey's website. I use bias binding so I cut the overlap about 1/8 to 3/16 inch shorter to allow for the stretch.

I have used this for all of my bindings as well. I tend to cut it 1/4 inch shorter than the width ( 2-1/4 inch binding width, cut the ends at 2") because the fabric always seems to stretch just a tad.

This is the one I use as well.

Add me to the list....this is the method I've always used.

How to Bind a Quilt - 6 Simple Steps This demo on you tube is the easiest way I have found and the way I have done it for years, no math involved. I could never get my binding on the other ways.

gale 07-07-2015 09:37 AM

There's no math involved in the method the OP posted. You just have to know the width of your binding.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I KNEW there had to be an easier way than what I was doing... :-0)

I use this method to bind my quilt. Jenny's tutorials are always very instructive and clear.

wendiq 07-07-2015 02:23 PM

I've been doing this for years....learned it from reading a quilting bible put out by Better Homes and Gardens. I think the title is "The Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting"......Pictures and excellent instructions......I could never get the "tuck" kind to lay flat......

gigi712 07-07-2015 06:17 PM

That was my problem wendiq, my tuck was off kilter or somethng else was wrong and I didn't like the lump.

gale 07-07-2015 06:40 PM

I like that when I use the sewn method, I can finger press the seam open and avoid that bulk.

Thanks! I bookmarked it.

Love the little hint about the width of your binding. That makes this process soooooo much easier! Going to binding a baby quilt tomorrow and will give this a try!! Thanks for the link to this tutorial.

purplefiend 07-09-2015 04:06 PM

This is the exact method that I've been using for years. I learned it from watching Kaye Wood on PBS. The binding always comes out just right every time.
