Easy way to make binding
Just tried this method and it works like a charm.
The trick to this method is to make sure you put your strips the right way up. I just lay all my strips on my cutting board then twist and lay the ends together like in the video, then trim and cut with the ruler. BTW, I don't have the Creative Grids ruler. I used my Easy Angle ruler and it works just the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKQ9VS8e0lI |
Thanks for posting. I need to try this -- think it might help me conquer my unique ability to sew right side to wrong side when I get on a roll. So annoying!

I can see that the ruler does give the 1/4 inch overlay so you don’t have to try to match the dog ears. It is still easier for me to just lay my binding pieces in an L shape and sew the 45 degree and trim off the extra.

Same here, Tartan! I have the CG Folded Corner Clipper - I still get better seam 'joins' using the old school method!

Thanks for the informative tutorial. I just purchased that tool and the instructions will be so helpful

I have the folded corner ruler and it's a life saver when using for corners. When I bought mine it was by Pioneer Sky Quilting. CG bought the rights to it. It's a wonderful ruler to have.

EasyPeezy, thanks for telling us about this method, and that you use the Easy Angle ruler -- which I have. So, you saved me money and taught me something new. I think I prefer the Easy Angle ruler because it's much larger than the Creative Grids ruler.

There used to be a video that showed how to do it with any ruler (stack the binding, cut at 45 degrees, clip the corner off at about 1/4") and also showed a great trick for joining the seams (not the overlap method) but it has been removed. I'm starting to wonder if the same people who made it are the ones who created this ruler and the other video was hurting sales. Anyway, I think I have the easy angle ruler so I might give it a try.
