Ely's Fabric Warehouse in Mobile, AL closing
 

I recently moved part-time to Mobile, Alabama, and discovered a gold mine of a resource there, Ely's Fabric Warehouse, which I believe has been in business 50+ years. It's a rambling, run-down, establishment with several huge rooms stacked in all kinds of fabric. In December I stopped by to pick up some fabric for a project and learned that they are going out of business. At the time, cash purchases were reduced 60%. It's sad to see a place like this, which has become a community institution, close down.

I'm back in New England now, so I don't have an update on Ely's status, but I thought I'd mention what I do know here, in case it can be of use to someone. Forgive me if this is repeat information; a quick search of QB didn't turn up any results for this place.

so sorry to hear about another store closing down. Your description sounds like the kind of store I love....you can look and look and perhaps find a treasure.
