I should have waited...... :(

Barbm 02-04-2011 02:51 PM

darn spent my birthday money on a photography class. Wonder if I whine to hubby.....

MTS 02-04-2011 02:53 PM

That is a great price. Too bad I'm looking for the upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up, though. I'll pass it on.

featherweight 02-04-2011 03:01 PM

Maybe I should learn to use my EQ5...

pamesue 02-04-2011 03:34 PM

well...I just bought EQ7 for $185.00 in January....poop...wish I would had that price.

carolaug 02-04-2011 03:41 PM

Do you really use it? Is it worth it?

Yup. If I didn't already have EQ6, I'd jump on it.

However, if you don't want to spend the moola now, or want to check it out to see if it's something you're even interested in playing with, I'm sure you can find a cheaper version of EQ5 or EQ6 for sale here or one eBay.

Just keep in mind that EQ5 is NOT directly upgradeable to EQ7.

And if you're buying a used EQ6 (which would be upgradeable), make sure you ask about how many activations have been used, and if the upgrade to EQ7 has been used yet.

Of course, depending on the prices of the version + upgrade, you'll probably end up spending the $132. I didn't check the shipping, but that really is a fabulous price.

carolaug 02-04-2011 03:57 PM

I don't mind paying the price if I will use it. Just wondering how much people use it and if its easy to use.

I ordered one. Can't wait to get it! Thanks for the heads up!

There is probably a slight learning curve, especially if you've never worked with a graphics program before. But it comes with a good book that includes step-by-step instructions, plus video tutorials.

I use it a lot. Which doesn't tell you anything about how much YOU might use it. ;-)

I have the EQ5 that I have not used yet. I guess there are to many free patterns for me to design my own.

carolaug 02-04-2011 04:33 PM

That was what I was wondering. Not sure I would use it.

great

For those who have EQ5 there is a special offer...they do not state what until you fill out the form. http://www.electricquilt.com/Shop/EQ5toEQ7.asp

carolaug 02-05-2011 02:39 AM

Here is there site with the video demos on what it does. I am watching them now http://www.electricquilt.com/Shop/EQ7/EQ7D.asp

spiffy 02-05-2011 04:51 AM

I have EQ6 and use it all the time. I love that I can scan in my own fabrics. Then when I design my quilt in EQ6 I can see the finished quilt with the exact fabrics I plan to use.

Doing this also makes changing your mind about which fabric to use where in the quilt very easy.

harley 02-05-2011 05:41 AM

thanks for the info.

Barbm 02-05-2011 06:08 AM

I broke down and ordered it. I also ordered a ruler and some little things on clearance so I could get the free shipping.

Looking forward to getting it! I don't think I will need to order books or patterns. Now maybe the quilt patterns floating in my head will come out and be real.

what is an EQ7? I went to the web site and could not find it. Feel so dumb.

seppert 02-05-2011 09:16 AM

Good price on your EQ7. I was supposed to take a class at a local quilt shop today (Saturday, Feb. 5) to learn about EQ7 but we had freezing rain during the night so I did not go. Snow is one thing but ice is a no-go for me.

susie4 02-05-2011 09:34 AM

I'm thinking of buying EQ7....can you use a pattern that you've bought and see what your fabrics will look like.......I have such a hard time envisioning what a pattern will look like with different fabrics......I guess what I'm wondering is, if you can scan in a pattern or duplicate a pattern you already have and see what the different fabrics and colors would look like.....hope I'm not too confusing...

Replying to my own post. How pathetic.

But look what I just found:
http://www.electricquilt.com/Shop/EQ5toEQ7.asp

I don't know exactly how much the offer is, but it would be worth checking if someone
A) already had a copy of EQ5
or
B) was looking to pick up a really cheap version of EQ5 and then upgrade to EQ7 with this offer (if the total was less than $132 plus shipping on the EB site).

NAYY.

Well I filled out the email and will let you know what the price etc. is. I haven't even used the EQ5, I don't know if I would use the EQ7. They say it is much easier the the 5. I wish someone had a class close to me so I could learn it. I suppose I could use the tute that came with it huh??

Thanks. I didn't have a valid EQ5 serial number to send them.

I've heard good things about the QU classes.

But, really, using the included lessons/videos really would get you started on designing simple layouts, and getting used to using the block/color/placements tools.

I'm not a "master" in EQ (I've got version 6) but I've managed to design some pretty complex quilts. And while I'm not mathematically challenged ;) , it's very helpful for just quickly figuring out potential quilt sizes without paper and pencil.

I just need to make myself set down long enough to read and do the workbook. I seem to have to many irons in the fire, if you know what I mean.

The upgrade special price for EQ from 5 to 7 is $150! I got my response back and bought an "upgrade" for 6 instead on this board.

I don't know if I will use it enough to warrant the higher price. Version 6 is more user friendly, in my opinion, than 5.

I can use the help with the fabric choices and combination of blocks that the software provides. I also like the EQ Simplified books for lessons.

question eq folks;on scanning your own fabrics. does this mean eq7 can also be an inventory tool? if i have 3 totes of greens and have scanned my entire stash, would i be able to locate a certain green batik for my design by tote #?
