Errors in the BLOCK magazines by MSQ

If you have subscribed or purchased a BLOCK magazine, it is possible there are errors in the patterns. If you join the Quilting Forum at MSQ, the errors are listed by magazine release (winter, spring, summer and fall). I have printed out the corrections and added them to the respective magazine issue. Happy quilting !!

I have all issues -- where do you find the list of corrections? Like you, I would like to put corrections in respective books.

I feel the same way. I sent an email to them stating just that. I asked them not to charge my cc before the magazine is mailed.
I also think that by now they should have the kinks worked out so that there are not so many errors in each magazine. I might even understand if there were 1 or 2 errors, but there are many!
Don't get me wrong, I love Jenny and the MSQC, but enough is enough.

Uh, every quilt magazine has an errata page on their website. All of them. Examples:

http://www.fonsandporter.com/magazine_corrections.html
http://www.quiltmaker.com/pattern_correction.html
http://www.quiltersnewsletter.com/bl...ag/correction/

They don't send emails or post go check our corrections. It's up to the customer to go find it. I bet 99% of the subscribers never check out the error page before starting a quilt from any magazine. At least MSQC has a forum that will alert you to the errors.

I think that when you pay good money for a magazine, it IS up to the publisher to notify the customers of the mistakes. It would be different if it was a free magazine, but it is far from it.

I think the magazine is very nice but I haven't been using them so I cancelled my subscription.

AnnEliz 10-08-2014 08:34 AM

I love that new magazine. No advertisements and I love reading the comments and the stories. All the quilts are easy ones and very pretty. I do enough difficult patterns and sometimes it is a relief and more relaxation to find something easy and fun to do. I found the errors with no problems and also printed the page and inserted it into the magazine to which the error/s was made. I love all quilt magazines but this one has become my favorite and I cannot wait for it to get here. Keep up the good work Jenny--you're my kind of woman!! The normal everyday type--you never put on any "airs." Thanks.

SunlitenSmiles 10-08-2014 08:41 AM

LOL....have you ever seen the Errata for some of the books published?
This is a case where the proof reader needs to be a quilter who has never seen the project before and actually makes a quilt from the directions.......the final version of the directions, after the photos and such have been inserted.

difficult to catch all the typo mistakes...but the corrections are available on line and it is best to check before buying fabric because the yardage is one of the mistakes I have seen most often in books.

agree 100% AnnEliz...like a visit with a sister who is a quilter.

This is why I always make a practice block before I cut into my good fabrics. Years ago I cut out all I needed for a top and the pattern had a bad mistake and I had to rush to the store and was lucky to find my fabric still in stock. That taught me never trust a pattern until I do a practice block.

same goes......and a common error is in the yardage for backings and sashing....easy calculations to make to check the yardage is correct (whole truth here...I prefer to use wide backs)

If you are a member of the MSQ Forum, just scroll down to find the website to find the errors and corrections section.

No, just the April 2014 Magic Diamonds, Dresden Coin Quilt and Stained glass quilt; June 2014 Pop Fly, American Classic, Ladies Luncheon, Simple Joys, Starlight, StarBright, Sweet Harvest; and Winter 2014 Pages 55, 63, 84 and 97. They are simple changes, but could cause confusion. If you cannot find the corrections, let me know.

I agree AnnEliz. I love Jenny also and am so pleased I could find the errors on her website. Come on Great Quilters, we all make mistakes no matter if we are proof readers or quilters. This is MSQ's first year at publishing a magazine.

I hope you do not cancel Geri B. These are great people at MSQ and, as has been stated, the errors are not intense.

I have one copy of the magazine. I have ony quickly paged thru it so I can't say anything about errors. A lot of patterns have errors when they are printed. I try to remember to check for them before I start a quilt. I went to a trunk show with Jenny a few weeks ago. She was awesome. So nice and personable. SHe signed autographs and answered all questions. SHe even posed for everyones pictures. I wonder if she even had time for a break before her next show.

What about magazines that are sold at stores? It would be pretty hard to notify those who don't subscribe.

SingerSewer 10-08-2014 02:16 PM

Our quilt guild made a quilt using a pattern from a magazine...one of the three or four part kind. We got the blocks made and some were too small. When we looked at the individual block information the unfinished blocks would not have come close to the finished block size. We should have tested each block but we didn't. Just made new blocks for the ones that were too small. These were from one of the well advertised magazines NOT from MSQC.

I agree!!! Best $5.99 I have spent ...Other magazines are full of wasted ads, not many patterns and cost way too much!!!

a few months back I contacted Fons & Porter about an error in the quilt they had pictured. I got a message back that there wasn't a mistake, but it most certainly had one so I replied trying to point it out to them. Never did hear back from them. The points were suppose to look like a star and in one of the blocks in the quilt had the points going the wrong way. So easy to spot, but they didn't believe me. LOL

I understand that errors happen. But, it's such a great company, it would be nice if the "errors" were sent to our emails like the "you've been charged" was sent to our emails. Afterall, a subscriber list is a subscriber list. Nothing changes.

No publisher will do that.

I too, agree with AnnEliz & SunlitenSmiles, & many others. I love Jenny and the Block Magazine. Yes, there are some errors in the magazine, but, thankfully they are willing to post the corrections. I for one am not perfect, so I know that others are not perfect. I just take it in stride and made the corrections in the magazine.
I read my books on my Nook and I am always finding typos and errors in them.
There was only 1 perfect person and it isn't me & I doubt it is any of you. LOL!!!
In the end it just depends on how big a deal it it to you. Not a big deal to me.
