We have discussed bindings on here many times. I came across this video today. They talk about what a good binding is, what judges look for, why we should or should not use certain prints, problems associated with bindings, he covers just about everything you can imagine and THEN he said, you need to end sewing each side of the binding with a SCANT 1/4"...because you also have to allow for the folds just like in piecing... how simple, but how true!!! He sews them on using a 3/8" seam allowance, and also shows how to easily measure where to STOP sewing on each side... another light bulb went off...soooo simple but very effective.
This video is really worth watching, the explanations are very easy to follow, and he actually sits and sews on a binding, explaining everything in great detail as he goes along.

It's the second video in the line-up - Hollis Turnbow...

I was having a lot of trouble with the binding on my Downy Quilt I thought it was a hopeless disaster---then I found this video and what a life (quilt) saver!! I have to admit that I did find him a bit long winded at times, his explanations are very detailed and he tells you everything you need to know to get beautiful bindings.

Amma, you're so thoughtful to include the link for everyone.

I watched his video and learned alot from him. I do not have anything ready for binding just yet but when I do that is the way im going to do it. Binding is my least favorite thing about quilting.

I am in the process of attaching a binding and this is perfect timing for me. It is so detailed.

Thanks for the link!

my computer won't run the video. I don't know why I have this problem. I guess it is dial up.

You are welcome :D:D:D
I wonder why when I click on the link, the correct video comes up? I will NEVER understand computers LOL
Thank you for saying you can click on browse videos and look for Holice Turnbow :D:D:D

Hi,

I tried the same thing but sometimes below the video is a link and can copy and paste it but still not working right so they must be having problems with the links on that site. You can browse videos and find it.

I took a class from Hollis on stencil making. He seems very matter of fact on the video, but in class he was alot of fun. He is very knowledgeable.

For good video's go into You Tube and type in Quilt Bindings. There are a lot of good video's on You Tube relating to Quilting.

I watched the binding video one day and then the next day it wouldn't work -- I waited a couple of days and then it worked again. Maybe they don't all work every day (like us!)

craftybear 04-09-2010 01:36 PM

I always have problems on that site watching videos
