Exploding Block Video

Apologies if someone has posted this already. I just watched Jennie Doan's video on the Exploding Block and it is so adorable and versatile! Hope you enjoy it, too. http://youtu.be/sHV-x4e500s

I have not seen that one, but it sure looks like a fun quilt to make, and easy too. I would love a scrappy look. Thanks for the link, another one on the list!

I'd love to see what you do with this

I saw this yesterday, also. I have that same pattern for that block, but it is put together piece by piece. Think I will use Jenny's from now on.

Thanks for posting this the second time. I missed it the first time and am now itching to try it!

The baby quilt is great done in those fabrics. Sure is amazing how people come up with so many fun ways to make a block.

I watched it yesterday. Wonder what it would look like if you just keep going for a one block baby quilt.

Does anyone know if this turns out to be the same as the "economy" block that is popular right now out there in blog-land? I love this block, but Jennie's tutorial makes it look much easier! http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2014/...ilt-along.html

Here in the U.K. we've made the block this way for some years. Also known here by the name "Magic Square" Be aware that you lose the points on the squares when you use this method but it's certainly quick and the more rounds you add the more it looks like a pineapple quilt. I found that if you try to sew one finished magic square to another it's not easy (or not possible) to get nice matching intersections. Difficult to explain but try it and see. For that reason I prefer to use sashing between the blocks to disguise the inaccuracies.

If you really want precise points then the 'Economy Block' will give you those.

Here are pictures of 2 of my magic squares quilts. A 3rd picture won't upload. Pity as it was made of tiny starting squares about 2½" square.

Thanks Krystyna it's new to me, and I'm off to make a block so I won't forget.
