Feed Sacks
FYI- I watched a feature presented by Linzee Kull McCray on her book Feed Sack: The Colorful History of Frugal Fabic on a The Quilt Show site. It was in the daily blog and it was very interesting.

a lot of my dresses and my brother's shirts were made from feedsack fabric. Our neighbor had cows and my mother would look at the different prints and ask him to get more of that in his next load. Yes -- sometimes our underwear was made of them too. Always aprons were made of them.
Mim Being poor -- and most of us were back then -- we didn't know we were poor. And we didn't ask for handouts. A couple times a year the government sent bags and barrels of surplus foods. I still love dried apricots |
Yes, I wore lots of clothing that was made from feed sacks. I made my first wearable garment from feed sacks when I was 9 years old. I remember it well. I have always loved feed sacks and have several. One of my prize possessions is a DWR quilt made out of feed sacks. It is always on display in a back hall of our home. I hope I can find the video that you spoke of.

Authentic 30's feedsacks can be pretty valuable! I've seen them at quilt shows and the prices are crazy high. I have a few and am too chicken to cut into them b/c they're so expensive/valuable.

I scored 18 beautiful feed sacks at an auction a couple of weeks ago. I'm trying to decide what quilt pattern to use. I want it to be a vintage pattern.
