I'm working on a quilt that takes a flying geese pattern in the star block.
The pattern is out of an older Fons and Porter book and their directions say to cut each piece of the flying geese pattern and then sew them together. I knew that I had seen an easier way to do it, so I searched on the internet.

I found this method that looks easy to do without going to all of the fuss.

Many of you probably already have your favorite way to make the flying geese block but I thought I would post it in case someone was interested.

The easiest way I've found to do it is:
Whatever your rectangle is.....say 6 1/2" x 3 1/2".......cut your squares the 3 1/2" measurement. Draw a diagonal line across your square......then a 1/2" outside that. Sew on the drawn line and the 1/2" line, cut apart, press. Do the same to the other side. This gives you a perfect flying geese unit and 2 hsts. I just did that to the civil war quilt I just posted and I already have all the hst all put together for a border.

I like that method. I'd copied from something else and it had this chart attached. Just an FYI :) :)

Draw a diagonal line on the small square and sew 1/4" of each side of the line. Cut on the drawn line and press. Square up if necessary.
