Wow!! So easy-Thanks so much for posting this link!! Fast & easy is the way to go!!

SewExtremeSeams 09-18-2014 08:52 AM

That is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

KrissyD. 09-18-2014 12:17 PM

I tried this but takes WAY TO LONG at the ironing board plus you have all the creases you ironed on the fabric. Not for me but was worth a shot . I can do it faster just cutting & sewing PLUS I don't have to worry about centering the block in the exact center on the first fold , if not centered the other strips ( top & bottom ) are off center :(

gale 09-18-2014 12:39 PM

That's pretty ingenious!! I think I would spend extra time cutting those extra layers away though, so I could use that unseen fabric. lol

dcamarote 09-18-2014 02:28 PM

OMG! Can't thank you enough for sharing this. What great ideas!

I'm inspired! Thx for sharing.

I was thinking that the triangles could be stitched diagonally on the pressed line and then stitch again 1/2" +/- from the original stitch line. Once you cut between the rows of stitching the result is a pile of HST to use in another block.

This is a great way to diminish the scrap pile. And the triangles would not have to be the same size which might be an interesting result. Also using multiple sized triangles would be interesting to consider. The possibilities are endless. -- Thanks for sharing this site.

Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing

DianneK 09-19-2014 04:40 AM

wonderful tut...thanks

onthelake 09-19-2014 05:23 AM

Neat ideas, but with the price of fabric, it seems like you would be wasting a lot of fabric.

institches33 09-19-2014 05:39 AM

This is one of the methods where you think it's so simple - why didn't I figure that out????

katesnanna 09-19-2014 05:59 AM

I found this site last night-it's fabulous! Showed it to BFF when she arrived today. I found some of the ideas very exciting.
With all the stash I have, I don't think I'll worry about using a bit extra. Can't wait to start.

I tried a few different squares and they came out fine. I love the four patch. They came out perfect.

cactusmomma 09-19-2014 07:52 AM

That was very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

No kidding...you're right this is pure genius. Don't care much for the "flappy" style, but the idea and execution is masterful! Thanks so much for sharing.

JanieH 09-19-2014 08:52 AM

Really interesting tute. Thanks for sharing.

I don't either, but when I saw her fold that part back (kind of like a cathedral windows quilt) I thought that was pretty cool!!

I have a ruler that is perfect for centering the 5 in square in the middle of the 10 in square. It's called Spare Change ruler. I got it at Missouri Star Quilt Company. I made the quilt top in this video in Sat afternoon. It's my DH favorite quilt. He keeps it on his chair. Now my Son in Law, Uncle and nephew want one like it. I used the Kansas Troubles layer cake and charm pack.

I don't try to save fabric when making a quilt, waste is just normal for a fun fast quilt to make.

cindy anne 09-19-2014 05:38 PM

I like these methods. A great way to use one of the 10" packages I've purchased. Thanks for Sharing.

Conartist1945 09-20-2014 02:37 AM

Thank you so much for this link! I wish she had a video explaining each one in detail so I would always have it.i would but it in a second.

mimiknoxtaylor 09-20-2014 02:50 AM

I sure do want to try this. Just watched Nancy Zieman do something similar doing a folded flying geese quilt. Wish I could find the link to share but it was in Quick Column Quilts part 3.

Wow I Like That 09-20-2014 03:11 AM

That is very clever. The cutting is the hardest part for me so with precuts and this method it would be a breeze to stitch a top together. Thank you for sharing.

2manyhobbies 09-20-2014 04:10 AM

I tried this and I found it to be great fun and the blocks are beautiful. I am going to make a template so I can center faster. I didn't find the ironing difficult at all and the blocks go lightening fast. One question I have, though, is weight. If I were to make a queen size quilt, would the extra fabric in the seams make a heavier quilt? Would I then use a very light batting? I am running my blocks to my local quilt shop to show them off.

here's another recent thread on it.

ube quilting 09-20-2014 04:44 AM

Very interesting. My stash has enough sizable pieces in it that there will be no need to buy precuts at all for this kind of piecing. Cool!!!
peace

I want a play date with her!!!!!

winia 09-20-2014 05:57 AM

I recently came upon this. Ingenious. However, I took some fabric out and just laid the charms on top of the ten inch.
You need to use a charm square that you cannot see through or line the charm square. Otherwise, the bottom fabric shows through. I do absolutely plan on doing something with it. I bought a layer cake Lady Mary collection, and I think it would make a fabulous quilt with this technique. I just need to get a heavy enough charm square fabric for the center. I had wanted to use the same charm square fabric for the entire quilt. I'll have to start experimenting with my stash.

I have not seen them, but it is my understanding she has several videos using this technique.

ccthomas 09-20-2014 06:36 AM

Thanks for the critiques. I can see how important the center is. You would need your iron right next to the sewing machine and no slipping on each fold and stitch. I would like to have seen her sewing as well.

A center template would be very helpful Good questions.

fangman 09-20-2014 08:21 AM

This is great.

OldHairTwister 09-20-2014 08:23 AM

Love the floppy ears on the last one. I am bookmarking this one for sure.

gale 09-20-2014 10:05 AM

Having the 5" square off center would be cute too. Kind of a more wonky, whimsical look.

Donnasue 09-20-2014 11:07 AM

Thank you for the video!! I love this. I have lots of 5" squares and didn't know what to do with them.

Momala24 09-20-2014 03:00 PM

Fold and sew

This is brilliant! I read your post yesterday and had to try it out. I am just about finished a sixteen block baby quilt top that I started yesterday afternoon at about 4:30. (just have to sew the rows together). I used this method for the block and then sashed them and used cornerstones. Turned out very well. I'll be doing this again for sure! Thanks for the link.

Cass62 09-21-2014 01:01 AM

I really like this idea, but I'm another one who would be cutting extra fabric layers away. lol
