Fold and Sew quilts. Fun!!!
I found this link on Youtube. A new way to look at "piecing" a quilt top.

Thank you! Sounds like something I'd like to try. Sometime you just want to do something ease other than jelly roll
strips. :) |
Missouri quilt company just did one with tumbling blocks! So cute, now if I can just find it again !!
|
That was very cute!!

Thanks for sharing this tutorial. It looks easy and fun which just happens to be my type of project.

thanks for sharing

definitely quick and easy. my frugal self would not want to waste all that fabric left behind the added blocks. and when you sew those triangle ones together, you will lose the points... not my style, but each to her own.

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing this. It's bookmarked already and ideas are flowing!

I did the square in a square one with a layer cake and charm squares. Lots of fun, no waste, quick. Had
a large lap done in about 5 hrs. |
what a fantastic idea I cant wait to try this, thank you for sharing

Thanks for the link.
When I need a quick quilt and don't want to think about what to do this would be perfect. If you are a scrap saver you could cut the extra pieces out and have those scraps |
Thanks for sharing. Thats a very neat idea. Some people are sure smart thinking up all these time saving techniques.

Very interesting. It is a lot quicker but I would be worried about the bulk where there is more than one folded stitched.
|
My questions are how big is the finished square, if you start with a 10" square, and what does the back look like with all the seams? It does look fast and easy…guess I'll have to try out a block...
|
Very cool. I'll be trying this. Thanks

I commend Peg for this video. I learned something new today! (grin). However on the block with the folded triangles in 4 corners it appears to me that you will be losing the points when you join those blocks to other blocks. Perhaps a folded square that is slightly larger would provide the overlap that is needed for the seam allowance. I also agree with some that this is a waste of fabric. Good ideas for quick quilts though.

I have seen this before and made a comment on the page about the waste of fabric. Someone commented on my comment that there is always a waste of fabric when quilting and the waste could be used in other projects. Without trimming the excess fabric from the backside of the block there is no waste to use in another project. Seems to me there would also be a lot of bulk in some of the designs of the block, also. I think the only trade off is the time involved in not cutting the fabric before sewing to create each block.
Willferd, the first block of the demo should be 9" unfinished. You will lose 1" each direction that the folds take up in stiching the raw edges on added fabric to create the design. I haven't tried to make any of the blocks, but I, too, would think that the points would be cut off since she doesn't allow for the 1/4" seaming the blocks together. You could always allow for that when placing the added fabric to the 10" square. |
I never thought of thinking of the fabric waste when watching this. I don't see what difference it makes, it's part of this method of being fast and fun. To be worried about the fabric takes the fun out of it. The extra fabric will make a warmer quilt so it's not wasted. :)

Love the idea - working on one right now - will post the finished quilt
