I found this free tutorial on Jennifer Kiera-Oona's blog and have been making them as Christmas gifts. Her address is: http://bronzewombat.blogspot.com/200...atchwork.html. For some reason, some were not able to access her blog at the URL I posted earlier, so I thought I would post her tutorial.

Just click the download button under the photo and you should get the instructions in pdf format. If that doesn't work, I can email them to you.

To access the tutorial, click on the web page above, when the page comes up, click on 'Go To Homepage' and it takes you right to the tut. Looks fun and easy.

Hey, that's just a bigger version of the pointed star Christmas ornaments. Now I can practice on something a little bigger. Now to open the link...

Forgot to say how pretty it is.

racnquilter 12-11-2009 06:41 AM

That looks so cool!!! Can't wait to try it out.

My Mom made scads of folded star potholders. She also made oodles of smaller ones, about 3" across, as ornaments. Here's pics of each:

Go to: http://bronzewombat.blogspot.com/ Then click on "Go to blog homepage" and you will see the link to the tutorial on the left side of her blog.

Thank you....I'm glad you like my tutorial! I don't know why it's so difficult to get to, though.

Okay, so when the directions say to "stitch the four points together" can I assume that means a small stitch done by hand? I see that each round is machine stitched around the base, but I wasn't quite sure what she meant regarding the points. These are very lovely and I'm thinking that I'd like to get a head start on next Christmas. I'd like to make a smaller version so that they would be ornament sized. Thanks for this helpful tut.

I just did a quick 2-3 stitches by machine in the point of each triangle so it was hidden within the fold.

Has anyone made these in smaller version that would work for a Christmas tree ornament? I'd like the end product to be around 3". So, I'm wondering how far down I need to scale the measurements of each layer?

Maybe you can start with this and, instead of attaching them to a styrofoam ball, make them flat like the potholders.

sunkistmi 12-31-2009 10:15 AM

I just love these potholders! I too could not get into the link so would you mind PM or e-mailing the directions? I would really appreciate it. Maybe I could actually get started on something ahead of when I need it instead of waiting until the last minute. Not likely but I can wish. Thanks so much.

patty48 12-31-2009 10:24 AM

I've made many of these.....love them

By the way, yours are beautiful

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It is coming out of the printer as I write. Have a great 2010. Someday I hope to get to your beautiful state. It is the only one I haven't seen. Someday. Take care.

You're welcome! Have fun.

Jenoushka 01-05-2010 03:22 AM

I just take two or three little stab stitches, by hand, through the folded point and down into the backing fabric. You just need enough to hold the points in place and stop them flopping around. I use thread to match the folded fabric.

sgrglider2 11-09-2010 05:08 PM

Does anyone have a pattern for a pillow using the folded star?

Patched 11-09-2010 07:20 PM

Two more things to add to my to do list. The way I figure it I'll have to live to 173 to finish my list. That is if I don't add anything else to the list, small chance of that happening, I'll probably add something else before the night is over. lol

Bobbinchick 11-10-2010 06:56 AM

Can't get into any of the sites posted and I have a book called Quilting With folded Stars. It has patterns for just about evvery thing including so epillows and appliance covers and such in the book , even a jancket and child's vest. I've made a gob of these pot holders a number of years ago and sold some of them. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

kso 11-10-2010 12:40 PM

We teach this to our beginning 4-Hers. But, we don't fold the triangles first. Instead the fold the fabric into rectangles and make staggered layers of calico that are then stitched onto the fold lines on the muslin. The stitching line holds down the fabrics and then we fold them down and toward the stitching line.

Hope this makes sense.
