There is a group on flickr called "Hoop Love" that has thousands of vintage embroidery designs. I think you have to be a member of the group of view them, but if you already have a Flickr account, it is easy to join.

I couldn't find any patterns, must be looking in the wrong place, even joined, that didn't help

If you go to the site join then hit group pool it will show you the designs.
