Frixion Pens

A friend sent this article to me regarding the use of Frixion Pens. I found it interested, so thought I'd share it with you. http://quiltskipper.com/2015/08/frix...-need-to-know/

There are far too many ways to mark a quilt that wash out or brush off to take a chance on something like this.

Stitchnripper 01-05-2017 01:50 PM

Some people swear by them and some people don't. Interesting, right?

Interesting that the company says they are not to be used on fabric. I do use the very thing sharpies to draw lines that will be in the seam or are the cut line (and I know they are not for use on fabric either) but I have not used the Frixion pens.

Somewhere in the archives, this article along with posts .......I personally just bought one before holidays-to mark the cutting line of a project. I don't think I would use on front. But I did read a comment that is interesting....use it on books, mags, patterns you are using. Then when you want to sell or give away, take iron and "erase" your personal notes. Now that makes sense to me too.

I use them but do not put them in the middle of a block

I had some but read so many bad things that i gave them to charity.

I use them for marking lines to sew, darts, tracing templates, etc. I don't use them for marking the quilt top. I use Crayola Ultra Clean markers for that.

They are making notebooks now that use frixion pens to write in them. When you are done and notebook is full, it is put in microwave and it erases everything in the book. Then you have a new notebook to write in. They are called Rocketbooks. I received one for Christmas. Not really sure the utility of it for me, but a neat idea.

I use a black frixion pen to mark my quilting on all my quilts. I have never had a problem. Once I used a lime colored one and when I ironed the marks off it did leave a ghost line, but it was so faint that it didn't ruin the quilt for me. I figured most people would never notice it, and no one ever did. However, I only use black ones now, and I have used them on both 100% cotton and cotton/polyester blend fabrics without problems.
The one thing I did use that did ruin a table runner for me was yellow chalk, so I would recommend never using it.

I only used them once . Yes they ironed out & washed out but once my quilt cooled either way here came the marks , never again

Thank you so much for your "homework" on Frixion pens. According to some quilt teachers on You Tube, the Frixion pens are the best thing ever. I have purchased a couple Frixion pens in different colors, so now I'm not sure if I will use them on my fabric in the future for marking lines. I will be careful how I use them in the future and I thank you for your research and sharing it on QB. Happy quilting.

I only use them on the wrong side of the fabric for marking lines for HST or other stitching. If the ghost marks would show up then they are not visible. I would not take the chance of using them on the right side to mark quilting lines, too risky.
