Frixon pens
I saw someone posted looking for those pens.
Looked at Amazon and they had good deals for a pack see website http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_sa...frixion%20pens I also use jelly pens. |
I bought my 3 pack (black, red, blue) from office max for less that $6. I would like to get the multi color pack so I can have some lighter colors to mark my light fabrics. Office max said the can order them for me, no idea of price, forgot to ask at that time since I was only interested in the 3 pack. Slap self on forehead.

First time hearing about these pens. Are these pens suitable for marking on fabric? How do they erase.?..do they stay on long enough to quilt a design?
|
What do you use them for? Would they work for marking quilting motifs, or are they mainly for cutting out shapes? Do they have to be erased or will laundering remove the marks?
|
You erase them with a hot iron. Some say that if you put the fabric in the cold, the marker will return. It does! for whatever reason my frixon pen line disappeared. I put it in the fridge and it came back.

I did a test with mine. I wrote on fabric, let it sit for the night them pressed the fabric in the morning. The markings disappear. I put the fabric in the fridge and the marks came back. I tried all three colors ( red, blue, black). All worked well. I repeated the test, but this time I washed it after heat removing the marks. I then put the fabric back in the fridge, and the markings did NOT return. I am very satisfied with the pens, and I feel confident to use them to do SOME marking for quilting and for my machine embroidery. I say "some", since I only tried it on cotton and poly/cotton blend. I would test on whatever fabrics i use in the future, since I sew with all types of fabrics.
As for marking a quilt, I would always test. The marks would be erased by the heat of an iron, but then you must wash the quilt to finish removing the "magic ink" markings. Funny story from one of our quilting friends who said she did not wash the quilt, but sent it to her friend. The quilt was sent by UPS and the truck was very cold. When her friend opened the box, the markings had reappeared! Sitting in the cold truck was enough to trigger the ink! |

i bought the multi pack in a zipper tin off 'ebay' for approx $18.
it's the best buy i've made in a while. i use them all of the time and love them! i use them for marking my fabrics for 'needle turn' projects and can't recommend them enough. you get such a lovely fine mark that makes your applique very accurate. i wouldn't be without them now!! bye bye chalk pencils!!! |
love them!!!!

I always purchase during back to school time....I got a three pack for $1.99 and then there was a rebate form with them, making the three pens $1....I probably never see that again. Watch CVS and Walgreens during back to school. They put these pens on sale 50% off or even less.

Going to check office supply houses near me.

You can also get them at Staples.
|
Thanks for the tip - did not know about these!
|
At a Home Show, Staples was giving out the Frixon pens as a promotional item. It told the young man I used them in my quilting and he gave me an unopened case of the pen sets in all colors! He said the faster he ran out the faster he could leave. He wasn't very thrilled to be there but I was! LOL I shared them with my quilt buddies.

I saw them at Hobby Lobby today a 3 pack and a 5 pack

I love these pens and use them a lot. I have heard that if they are not washed out some people have had bleach like lines where the ink was left in over time. I have not had that but have also not left them in over a long period of time. To be safe I wash them out rather than erase them with heat. Back to school sales is a good time to stock up. They are always on my Christmas list as well. Quilt shops sell them and generally in more colors but they are more expensive there than at office supply stores where the color supply is limited.

I've bought the multi color pack Please Be Careful they really come back with heat!! So I would be very careful where I mark my quilts. I thought they were wonderful. I used them on project for gifts. The marks come back, I thought after I washed the item it would go away!! Not so.

My quilt shop carried them. I use then when I do back-basting applique. Work wonderfully.

I absolutely love them I did an experiment a while back. I chose 10 fabrics and cut off a small piece and wrote on them with the frixion pens. I ironed them to remove it and it disappeared on al of the fabrics. I then put them in the freezer and it reappeared on all of the fabrics but lighter. I ironed them again and pinned them to my DH jeans and washed and dried them. I put them in the freezer again and it was very faint on about half of the fabric.
I used a pink frixion pen on dark t-shirt to mark it for applique. When I ironed it to remove the lines it left a faint bleached looking line that washed out. I always test it before I use it on dark fabric in particular. You should really at least test it on scraps of what you are going to use in a quilt. I have always had it iron out but you should always be careful. I love, love them. |
I buy mine at Staples. They are so much cheaper than purchasing them on line. I love them and have no trouble with the ink when it ironed out.
|
I use mine for HST, binding, and all sorts of things. I always wash after I make them and have never had a problem.
