I didn't get to the exhibit they had at the High Musuem in Atlanta but I did get a poster later . It hangs on my sewing room door. I love their quilts. Use up and make do and still its some of the most impelling art I have ever seen.

I have had the pleasure of meeting several of the Gees Bend Quilters here in AL. They were very interesting to talk to and also have seen on PBS tv about the story of them. Back in the 60`s when there was no jobs especially for Black women and the civil rights struggle a man from ,I think NY came down to help them to register to vote and saw their quilts and bought some and took them home and other people saw them and bought more. They have toured and dispolayed their quilts all over the nation. Some of them told me they never thought they would ever make that kind of money on their quilts, they are very expensive, about the only people I know who actually get paid enough for their quilts. Very lovely people!!!

Some of the ladies from Gees Bend were at the Sisters quilt show a couple - 3 years ago. Lovely ladies and their work is fantastic!

I was able to see the show at the flint mi art museum, it was great to see it. Nice to see something needful and useful honored! I brought home the poster aso. The post office honored them with the quilts on stamps years ago, I bought extra so "someday" I could make a display in my quilt room.

Yes I saw the same documentary PBS regarding Gee's Bend. I would love to see some photographs if your so inclined. I have never been there but some day I would like to visit and meet some southern quilters along the way.

The original modern quilters! I saw this exhibit when it was in St Louis a few years ago. Really humbling.

I went to a quilt show this morning. It was a traveling exhibit from a New York museum. Two of the quilts from Gees Bend were there. I took a photo of one before I realized we weren't supposed to!

I HOPE that the Gee's Bend quilters HAVE gotten the $$$$ proceeds due THEM from the quilt exhibits, the resulting books, licensing, kits etc
I remember hearing there were problems initially with the promotion of their quilts, and being compensated fairly ... ???
