Gotta love Eleanor Burns!

Had a horrendous day at work (computer problems the last 2 days and mentally exhausted). Now have a glass of wine in my hand, my feet up on the desk, and am watching Eleanor Burns videos. You gotta love this woman! She's a little quirky but I find her voice hypnotic, her stories interesting, and her lessons enlightening. You go, Eleanor Girl! http://quiltinaday.com/theater/

QuiltnNan 03-05-2013 04:49 PM

thanks for the link... i think TV is repeats tonight, so i think i'll join you

sandrab64 03-05-2013 04:54 PM

Nancy: would that be a glass of wine or Eleanor Burns or both?!

eann 03-05-2013 05:19 PM

Love E. Burns! I will watch more when the snow flies and the wind blows...and I want to stay inside!

GirlLivingForJesus 03-05-2013 06:13 PM

It's probably bad if my kitty is sitting here watching Eleanor right? :D

LOL, had to skip the wine... my current medication doesn't allow for it :)

Krystyna 03-06-2013 04:28 AM

She is fabulous - the kind of woman you wish lived next door.

leatheflea 03-06-2013 07:05 AM

Agree, she'll put you in a good mood. The only problem I have with her is that she taught me to throw my pieces on the floor. I've been doing it since I start quilting and can't stop! She inspires in so many ways the good and the bad! Kinda like your childhood BFF...LOL

BettyGee 03-06-2013 08:54 AM

I love her patterns, books and tools; however, her voice drives me bonkers. The glass of wine might make it easier, but it is only 9:30 in the morning. She is an amazing talent, but has one of those "too sweet" voices. Now, Jenny Doan I could listen to all day and be happy as a clam. Which poses the the question, how happy are clams?

BluegrassGurl 03-06-2013 09:09 AM

I love her!!! She has revolutionized quilting. She is quirky..... but very passionate about quilting and teaching!

My husband, on the other hand, leaves the room if I am watching her on t.v. ;-)

My husband says he needs several glasses of wine to listen to Elanor....I just keep her program on. I enjoy her tips and instructions.

vivianv 03-06-2013 09:17 AM

Just took a class from her at Sew Expo last Friday. She is a real kick! Puts on a great show. In talking to her later in the day realized she is also just a plain NICE lady. I also enjoy Jenny Doan. Her quick techniques are great.

solstice3 03-06-2013 10:05 AM

she makes everything look so easy

BellaBoo 03-06-2013 10:31 AM

I bought a package of the scraps she threw on the floor. LOL. She said she'll never tell who picks them up but she believed if you made the mess you clean it up. I've meet her many times at Paducah. She is a treasure.

sniktasemaj 03-06-2013 04:28 PM

My husband loves to watch her throw the scraps over her shoulder. He always comments on it. A lot of what I know about quilting is what I learned from watching her on TV. She is a wonderful teacher.

quiltsRfun 03-06-2013 04:41 PM

Her patterns are very well written and easy to follow. Love to watch her online or on RFD TV.

gramquilter2 03-06-2013 05:01 PM

Great site, I love anything Eleanor Burns.

GammaLou 03-07-2013 05:19 AM

My husband even enjoys Eleanor Burns. He calls her 'that crazy lady', but will sit there and watch her shows on TV with me. Doesn't hurt to have him somewhat conversational in 'quilt language'. ;)

I am with your husband on the voice. Love her books and patterns and even videos, if I keep the volume turned almost off as that giggly voice just drives me bats.

mjhaess 03-07-2013 06:25 AM

I love her...I have watched all her videos on her media theater...Thanks

I heard her say she works with two men when taping so being the only woman there she gets to clean up her own scraps. I'm going to see her lecture tomorrow night in Melbourne. Really looking forward to it.

collady 03-07-2013 07:35 AM

I just wish I had someone to pick up the snip-its and squiggles that I drop on the floor! I bet she has a staff the clean up for her now. (maybe not when she started!)

I could not agree more with you! I just love her.

I too have a package of her "tossed on the floor" scraps. Every time I look at them pinned up on my board I just smile.

nativetexan 03-07-2013 07:53 AM

I've watched her for many years. i tend to turn the volume down quite a bit due to her voice but still, she's good.

sjbart 03-07-2013 09:26 AM

Glad someone else has that problem and can blame it on the women responsible for millions of "quilt addicts"!

jeaninmaine 03-07-2013 09:59 AM

I love her, so many times I think someone has come up with a new technique, I look at one of her really old videos and there she is doing it. I want to try her way of doing the Jewel Box quilt.

bikermom 03-07-2013 10:50 AM

I had the pleasure to meet Eleanor Burns in her "Quilt in a Day" booth at the last 2 International Quilt Festivals in Houston, TX. She is such a very nice lady. Both times I had a nearby shopper take a picture of me and Eleanor together. Last year, she was wearing a frilly purple boa around her neck and she quickly put one end of the boa also around me for the picture. I also bought one of her books both times and she autographed each one of them.

AlaskaAlice 03-07-2013 01:36 PM

I think I have a VHS tape of a show where she shows a lady who helps her, sweeping the scraps up and her comment is "I bet you thought I just throw them away, didn't you?" She is great..I taped many of her shows + others from PBS when I had TV.. have some of her books also..LOL

tenngal 03-07-2013 01:45 PM

I've learned so much from her, especially with all that she's come through!

dhanke 03-07-2013 02:21 PM

I love E.B.!! My DH thinks she's great too, his bucket list includs meeting Vanna White and Eleanor Burns.

jeaninmaine 03-07-2013 02:35 PM

All of her shows can be watched on her website, she has them all available there to watch, going all the way back.

I got to spend today with Eleanor in Melbourne, took her Magnolia Bud quilt class. She is a great teacher and so down to earth. She autographed any of her books for us and had a photo session. The quilt went together so nicely (or should I say the blocks) and I hope to finish the quilt in the very near future. I also got to see Eleanor in Houston last year at both a mini trunk show and a demonstration of one of her rulers. She has so much energy.

Sharbank 03-07-2013 07:45 PM

I love El... she is so down to earth. I have learned a lot from her. Jenny Doan is the QUEEN of pre cuts and her whole family is so talented that they just gush the happiness of quilting. A great day for me is watching videos of the how to make quilts whether I have any wine or not.

kimg 03-07-2013 10:16 PM

Eleanor has some great stuff, but her voice is anything BUT soothing to me. I agree that Jenny Doan is calm and easy to listen to. Her tutorials are so easy to follow also.

TeresaS 03-07-2013 11:14 PM

I just had the pleasure of meeting her in person and the sew expo and she is as nice and kind as she is on TV.

SulaBug 03-09-2013 12:22 AM

Wonderful website, thank you so much for sharing with us.
:D :D :D :D

When I was living with mom last year, her and I would sit and watch Martha Pullen, Fons and Porter, Nancy Ziemann and "that crazy lady" every sunday together. Eleanor is great. I love how when she is piecing she just goes off into a story while sewing that usually has nothing to do with sewing or quilting. She just goes on and on, sometimes wonder if she realizes she is chattering. LOL always made me laugh to watch her.

I would watch Fons and Porter for designs, then go hunt up eleanors method of doing the same thing cause it was invariably easier to do Eleanor's way.

I hope one day to meet her, she truly is an inspiration. She reminds me of that Auntie that everyone wants to have ;)

Rosebird 03-12-2013 12:15 PM

I love Eleanor Burns, She' s one of the most important and made the Quilting Word go round! A big, big toast to her and bless her always!
