Thank you, I was wondering what to do for a wonderful friend of mine that sews for Christmas. You made my day.

QuiltnNan 07-12-2011 06:52 AM

that's a great organizer and would make a wonderful gift for any sewing friend.

I really LOVE how it is not just ONE thing...this is great for any hand work person to put on the arm of the sofa/chair! Even on the airplane, bus, train!

I don't use rice though..if it draws moisture it is not a good thing...
I am going to glue to large washers to some mat board for the bottom of the pin cushion for extra weight and stability, then use half corn cob bedding and half walnut shell bedding! with a steel wool pad on top of that to sharpen pins!

Thanks for the link, a very cool pattern. I think rice will be okay in our dry climate. I used yellow split peas in one project and that worked pretty good also.

I bet the peas worked great...takes a lot more moisture to get them broke down!

Great design!

Thanks for sharing.

LisaGibbs 07-13-2011 08:13 AM

I saw this at work and really loved the idea so I went home and made it. Takes about 3-4 hours if you take your time at the most and three fat quarters of different fabric. It is not as big as I thought it was and the directions were very good. The only thing, when I make the next one it says to sew the liner and exterior different seam allowances, which I am not going to do as it left a little pucker. This was a very simple and quick project I look forward to making again!! Thank you for sharing.

Did you ever think about using pea gravel? I've used this to weigh down some larger pin cushions that stood up and were in covered soup cans.

patimint 07-13-2011 03:36 PM

nursie76 07-17-2011 08:16 PM

Thanks so much for the link. I made one of these about year ago and just mended it. My DD's little dog Emma, got hold of it and pulled the middle part that holds the needles apart with her teeth. I was able to patch it. Don't know where the pattern is though, so I can now make another one....or two, maybe one for each season...
