They have a huge sale on fleece going on right now.

Tartan 02-05-2016 09:26 PM

I feel bad for their employees as well.

I just went to the link. Is this the same as Hancock's of Padučah? That is one of my favorite online stores. We don't have Hancock's around here. Only Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Yes, I feel badly, too, for the people losing their jobs.

willferg 02-06-2016 09:16 AM

No, Hancock Fabric and Hancock's of Paducah are very different. Hancock Fabrics is pretty much the same as Joanns.

Sandygirl 02-06-2016 12:34 PM

Hancocks of Paducah is privately owned and not a chain.

I would really miss Hancock Fabrics. From what I read, it looks like the stores to be closed are in North Carolina. Hope they can restructure and reopen in that area..

Hancock Fabrics has some outstanding deals on their Spot the Bolt fabrics, including upholstery fabrics. I do wish they had a little more organization and convenience when it comes to their checkout process.

They closed the one here in Corpus Christi last fall.

They closed a store in Ohio also, but I heard it was because of the difficulties with their space not being kept up by the owner. That was about two years ago.

It's a shame that chain did not become as popular as JAF and now hobby lobby......I wonder if eventually the company will go down. This article seems to be focusing on that state. The closest one to me is over an hours drive away, so I have not been a steady customer.

Our local Hancock in Davenport, IA closed around the first of the year....we still have JoAnn Fabrics. At one time there was a Hancock across the river in Illinois. Wonder if it is still open?

Onebyone 02-07-2016 08:22 AM

The owners are the problem according to the store managers I have talked to. They want the max profits at the expense of the needs of the store. Some Handcock Fabric stores are wonderful to be in, some are like junky thrift stores. I quit going to the one near me as fabric was piled on tables five and six bolts deep. I don't go to a store to do lifting exercises.

fred liniger 02-07-2016 09:29 AM

I can see why Our store here in SPFD MO can have five or six people waiting to check out and that many waiting for fabric to be cut. Only one person working. I waiting 25 min just to pay for thread I finally laid it on counter and left. Went to JA

The store in Wisconsin moved last fall, to a bigger space, then I heard they were part of the bankruptcy. Have not heard if they are closing, but they have more fleece than anything else.

ManiacQuilter2 02-07-2016 03:06 PM

They closed the store near me over 15 years ago.

yngldy 02-07-2016 04:59 PM

We have two near me, (well maybe 20 miles). Just called them. Redlands will be staying open for the time being, they have been saved for now. Upland is closing; biz as usual until Wednesday, then the liquidators will take over.

QuiltnLady1 02-07-2016 08:46 PM

I'll have to check if the one near me is going to close. That is my go to place for thread and notions.

mojo11 02-08-2016 09:04 AM

What a shame!

quiltingshorttimer 02-08-2016 10:06 PM

Wow! I hadn't heard about this, but sure hope the one in Overland Park KS doesn't close--I find that Hobby Lobby doesn't have much of an extensive collection, and JoAnne's drives me crazy! Takes forever to get anything cut! The Hancock's moved out of a larger, but poorly maintained building but they had lots of selection. They are now in a much smaller (about 1/2 the size) but nicer building, but it's just stacked high with bolts of fleece and hard to manuver in and they also need about 2 more workers--too much wait to get stuff cut or pay. But still hate to see them having struggles and feel so sorry for the workers.

They closed all of ours several years back and was gone for a long while then opened with new stores in new areas about five years back. The one I use is smaller but carrier a great quilting line and fashion fabrics. They carry a full line of home decor. fabrics and about anything I need. It is a neat well cared for store and I sure hope they don't close it. It is about half way between Walmart and Hobby Lobby for me so I can hit all three when I an fabric shopping.

I like their upholstery fabrics when they are on the Spot the Bolt sale. I buy Kona solids from there also with a coupon or percent off sale. I hope ours stay in business.
