New info to me. Thank you for sharing. I just bought some washing soda this week too. Good timing, huh? I think I'd use fabric to make them rather than toweling. I'd worry about the lint from the toweling getting on colored stuff - but I'm a worrier. LOL.

Does anyone know if Arm and Hammer "Super Washing Soda" is what they are referring to? Is this the product used in the Duggars homemade laundry detergent? I am curious.

The girls at work have given me a recipe for homemade laundry soap. You mix 2 cups Arm and Hammer Washing Soda, 2 cups Borax laundry booster and take 1 bar of Fels naptha soap and grate it and mix it in with the above two ingredients. You use 1 tablespoon of this mixture per load of wash. I was sceptical at first but they gave me some to try and it really cleans your clothes. I would be curious to see what the Duggars use. the boxes of Arm and Hammer and Borax make about 3-4 batches so you would need 3-4 bars of soap. I keep it in a closed rec ycled 5 gallon ice cream plastic container.

I make my own laundry soap too. But I use lye soap instead of Fels naptha soap
Use 1 to 2 Tablespoons in the wash
Add vinegar to the rinse cycle.

Found this recipe on the internet - I think it was called Homemade laundry soap.

Do the homemade color catchers work?

Kaye England just gave a talk at our guild. She laughed at people who use these, me being one of those people. I have a red flannel blanket that bleeds everytime I wash it. A couple of husbands white socks are now pink. They work for me. Kaye says to test your fabric before using and wash in cold water. The dye goes out with the water. She asked how many washed underwear before wearing it. Then she said so why wash your fabric first. She says she washes in cold water and has NEVER had a problem. Your choice.
