How did I not think of this?

Was browsing u tube tutorials. Watched one and the girl doing it, was sewing tubes of fabric, to turn inside out for bows. After she sewed it up, she inserted a long wooden spoon, not the spoon end, into the tube. She then pressed the seams open along the length of the seam, with the handle underneath. I gave it a try and was happy with the results, when I turned it out, it was flat and did not bulk up and it did not twist as I have had it do in the past. Give it a try, a great way of pressing.

Could you post a link to the tute? I understand how to do it but still would like to see the video. Thanks.

Sounds like a cheap Strip Stick

Sounds like a cheat stick schtick.

If you don't have a good quality long handled wooden spoon, it will cost as much as the strip stick. But I have a wooden spoon in the kitchen that will be great to use. Thanks for posting this.

I think the girls name is PattyDoo, if you search, it would be the one doing the cell phone cover. The spoon I used was one from the dollar store, package of three, longest one. I wouldn't call this a good quality, but it worked great.

You know that saying about a $ short & day late. I just ordered ordered a strip stick this week. Wish I had seen this. I have all sizes wooden spoons.
Great idea

Would wood dowelong also work?

I have used some of the round/ cylinder pieces of my kids' wood block sets for pressing.

You are ahead of me here, I never heard of the strip stick until I posted this. The wooden spoons do work and work well.

They would work well, as long as they go down the inside of the tube.

...see, invention is the mother of necessity......or something like that......no matter, just a good way to get a job done with what one has on hand! Repurposing at its finest!

A piece of a dowel works fine too. Probably even cheaper, I just raid my sewing room for them. Or buy a two foot piece at your local lumber yard. They may have scraps.

I took the suggestion from another thread and bought a length of moulding and was able to cut all 3 lengths of stripstick. I just have to cover them with muslin. It was a good deal - 3 stripsticks cost ~ $32, while the moulding strip cost me less than $6 and I already had some muslin.

Oh, I am going to show your post to my husband. I tried to explain about using molding but he didn't/wouldn't try to understand and told me to just order one so I did. I should have just gone and bought a piece of molding myself.

Brilliant! A new use for my home made broomstick lace dowel. (It started life as a replacement handle for a plunger, but I just cut off the threads, and sanded it smooth., then used mineral oil and the sun to 'season' it.)

What clever ideas, you gals are awesome!

The thick and long fun wood pencils at the .99 store work great too. and the tip is pointed, easy to get in the tube.
