how to figure out what to quilt on your quilt

I always have trouble coming up with ideas of what to quilt on a finished quilt. I watched this video and she has some good ideas as to how to get it all figured out. She's also funny and makes it enjoyable to watch the video. (it's 58 minutes long!)

I find IIT very difficult as well. Some people just seem to come up with the ideas with no trouble. To me I think free motion comes in different types. Do you just wonder over the fabric with one pattern or do you fill in different sections with different small patterns. I spend more time worrying than making the top. I wonder why so many of use have this block.

I have the same problem. What I really hate is when I decide on a quilting pattern, and then halfway through the quilt, i think of a better or faster design. Now what!!!! It's too uch to pick out and i have to force myself to finish it. I am kind of in that place right now with a lighthouse quilt. Luckily, it is large blocks so I make myself do at least a block at a time. My goal is to have it finished by Memorial Day. It's been 4 years since I bought the fabric and it goes on my bed at the lake house. I took it up there and don't take other quilting projects, so if I have to quilt- i have ot work on it.
Back to the design thing, i. Think it takes time to learn what looks good with certain patterns.

She is Excellent! I could listen to more of her examples and explanations. She really makes you feel like there are NO Quilting Police, it's just whatever you decide to do----except for the thread color thing.

Thanks for sharing this. I have customers who have no idea what they want and sometimes it's hard for me to come up with suggestions.
