Several friends have made rugs using this method. I made mug rugs using this method. Fun to do and use up scraps laying around. I am always taking a cup of tea in sewing room with me. I use the mug rug so I dont set the cup on my mat.

What can I do with the ropes after they are made?

Waiting to see the answers to wendiq's question. I think I have seen bags made with the ropes, but how to you sew them together?

Two friends have made cute purses using this technique. If I remember..they are zigzagged together. They used the pattern shown on video
