It's sorta quilting related, I guess. Wasn't sure where to post this, but I am pretty excited. My blog was chosen as "Blog of the Week" by the American Quilter's Society!! Woo-hoo!! If you are on Facebook, check out their page.

It started as a means for Donna Sue Groves, of Adams County, Ohio, to publicly honor her mother, Maxine--a skilled quilter of several generations. The community got together and created a driving trail of 20 painted quilts--to bring her idea to fruition and to draw a bit of tourism to an isolated rural area.
Many of them are very personal--replicas of family quilts that often are still in the farmhouse.
Over 3000 quilts have been painted and hung on barns and other buildings, with trails in 29 states and also Ontario, Canada. It is pretty amazing!

This was also exciting to me. First, congrats on the winning. That is wonderful. and Earlier in the year I asked if anyone knew why they had those squares on the barns up in Ky, not knowing we have them here in NC as well. Aren't they wonderful. Great for you to share. Lets America know, We are still out here, because of those who made those squares enriching our families with this craft.

Blessings,
Ruth

congrats! I had a great armchair tour thanks to your site - wish I could travel South & see these barns up close & personal. Hmm... a good reason to head South when the snow flies.

Suzi P 11-19-2010 04:33 PM

Glad you enjoyed it! There are plenty of them in snow country as well; chances are you are within a short drive.

But come on down for the tour!

Welcome Suzi - loved visiting your blog!
I teach too. I caught President Obama saying "Me and Michelle" in his speech in India on the news before school and used that as a teachable moment with my students. Sure has helped them remember to say it the right way.

It's even worse when you hear the principal make such an error while reading the day's announcements. Good thing he has a sense of humor, as about half a dozen of my ninth graders told him about it at lunch!

Hooray for you!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing.
I just happen to be from that part of the country.....Eastern Ky.
I'm always on the lookout for the barn quilts.

Suzi P 11-20-2010 08:02 AM

Eastern KY is "Barn Quilt Central!" I have spent a lot of time there. Such a beautiful place.

I got inspired and posted a couple from your area!

These days, it sure pays to have a sense of humor as a principal, I imagine. Lots of stress....

If I didn't know he would laugh, I would never have mentioned his error to my students.

One of the reasons I continue to do what I do.
