Identifying an old Quilt
 

Can someone help me figure out- I can faintly see on the back a print that looks like Dunlop. I’m not sure if this name is correct. I can only see what looks like 3 of the letters, so I filled in rest to what I think it might say. It was given to me by family who got it from some dear friends. I was told that the back of quilt was dyed with walnut hulls. I’m not sure about any of that. I was hoping someone on this forum could help me find out if this name sounds familiar. Did people use to use this type of fabric for quilting. I’m trying to figure out a date when it may have been made. Thanks

So this is definitely so cool and it is hard to figure out dates. Even some of us modern quilters like to play with dying fabrics with natural materials.

Do you have any idea of what the inner layer/the batting is?

For me this has the feel of a more modern project, not that older fabrics or even blocks couldn't have been used. I'm thinking there is a connection between the circular design and the Dunlop -- look at the company logo and your letters. Dunlop has been around long enough that feedsacks were around at the same time.

The inside is cotton. Its not fiberfill like stuff. You can tell it’s older because of the way it feels so worn and soft. This was given to my grandmother many years ago by some friends that actually made the quilt. My mother thinks it’s over 100 years old. My mother is 75 and she said the ladies that made that quilt were in their 60s when she was a little girl. My granny had this for a long time before giving to my mother.
