Incredible Technology!!! I'm AMAZED!

Total disclaimer I'm in no way affiliated with this company but I'm so excited to share this link with you....

Well I just saw video and I'm sending this to all my quilting buddies!!!! I cannot believe how wonderful this will be to add to our quilts AND I hate to have my picture taken but for family quilts how cool will this be? ..... I visited their website after I viewed the video thinking "Yeah Right how much will that little patch cost?" The stkr (sticker) is only $2.99!!! Incredible!!!!

I was at my quilt guild meeting last night and one of the members showed a family heirloom signature quilt that was made as close as they could figure in the late 1930's and it had at least couple of hundred or more signatures....though the family knew some of the names they didn't know the whole story ..... Now technology has caught up that the detailed messages can be left on these QR code stickers and put next to the label telling the story of the quilt!!!! WOWZERS!!!!

That is really something. For old people like me that is just hard to understand completely but can see how nice it would be also.

vondae 06-06-2013 09:41 PM

Wow, talk about high tech. At least for this grandma. But, such a super cool idea & it even sounds easy enough for a non-techie like me to do. Thanks for sharing.

That's amazing! What a great way to document your quilts. I like the idea of telling the story of why you made it.

misspriss 06-07-2013 03:42 AM

What will happen to that info when you no longer have this equipment (technology changes)? I spent a lot of money having old 8mm movies and slides my family and travels put on VCR's. Now I have to change them to disc because the VCR players are not readily available for the young persons interested.

I have to try this! I have 2 baby quilts ready to go and it will be a great addition for those!

Sunnye 06-07-2013 04:14 AM

Oh man! How neat!!!!!!!!! It's on my list to buy. Thanks for sharing this.

I saw this demonstrated at a recent quilt show, and it does sound great. However, I agree with MissPriss - technology comes and goes, and whatever the reader is for this will eventually disappear or have to be upgraded like records to 8-track tapes, to CDs to whatever is coming next. I'd still want a nice, informative label on a quilt, and I'm pretty vigilant in doing that on mine. I think any quilt without a label with the year and the maker is really sad.

love it very cool!!!!!!!

Oh I agree with MissPriss and LynnVT that indeed we've witnessed changes in technology. Where I think this technology is great is the amount of information this will allow us to attach to a quilt that a label cannot encompass. Like Lynn every quilt I make has a label attached but I'm limited to the amount of information, unless I want a label as big as the quilt attached to the back. :0)

What this little tag along with a label will allow is perhaps a video, a document telling hmm let's say the fabric line, the reason I used a particular print, "All flannel is from Grandpa's shirts", then go on telling Grandpa's biography.....leaving information that again, might be lost to future owners of the quilt.

I don't know that every quilt will have one of these QR tags but for me, for now, I think that this is a fantastic resource to attach to certain quilts that I want to leave a bit more information than I normally attach to the label. Ask Dawn 'SewnSewer2' who makes incredible embroidered labels for all my quilts...my labels are usually huge. So along with a label I'm excited to have the option to add more information should I choose.

Is the technology going to change? Without a doubt, but I think for $2.99 this little treasure will be on every family quilt next to one of Sewnsewer2 embroidered labels.

Then I'll trust that should this stkr tag become obsolete there will be technology to retrieve the information that without the stkr tag there would be no information to retrieve at all....As many quilts today have lost their history through time.

Just my humble opinion.

amazing what can be done now. Wouldn't it be cool if t existed years ago....oh the history we would learn!

maxnme01 06-07-2013 03:01 PM

That is just too COOL!

That is fantastic! I can't wait to try it!

How cool is this! I think I'll check into it - love the idea of putting a message on there.

AZ Jane 06-08-2013 06:28 AM

Definitely something I will be using from this point forward!!! Even though I use embroidered labels for all my quilts, this could contain so much more information!!

caspharm 06-08-2013 09:02 AM

Interesting idea! I may research it further before using, but I did bookmark the video. Thanks!

Betty2012 06-08-2013 10:41 AM

So, so cool!

Well said. As technology advances, there are always those who will develop a way maintain /transfer the information. What I am really impressed with is the recorded voice option. We have all lost loved ones & if we happen upon a recording of their voices (answering machine message or response on a video in which they speak) it sends you back to their essence - just like seeing their handwriting. It's a tangible witness of their presence in our lives.

I ordered many of the patches. I think it's wonderful. The patch doesn't have to go on a quilt. I think putting one underneath a picture of each family member in a family tree tree type setting that has voice, history and more pictures of their life will be fantastic. I have several elderly relatives I want my children to remember. This way nothing is stuck in a box in a closet to remember Great Aunt Joan.
