Jenny from Missouri Star Quilt co. put up a new tutorial on the jelly roll rug.

I actually bought the first pattern Jenny shows in her video today. This has been on my bucket list for this winter.

I was at my quilt guild meeting this past week and a lady had done one. She said you need to starch it every few rows and iron it so it stays flat otherwise they tend to wave at you. it turned out pretty but she said she had to rip it out several times to get it to stay flat. They don't tell you that in the instructions she said. Look on you tube and see what they tell you on there. That is where she found the info on the starching. FYI

I've made two. I didn't starch any rows at all or press rows and my rugs are flat. I kept a loose tension and never ever helped the fabric under the needle. I let the machine do the work. Also having a flat surface for the whole rug to lay flat as you sew it bigger is a must. You don't need a pattern. I bought the pattern and it was mostly fluff. I could have written what to do in one paragraph.

I have made six of these rugs. I didn't starch or press the rounds and they all are flat. I used a bigger zig zag stitch then the pattern said. Also I think the type of batting is key. I used the Katahdin on a roll. The ones in a class where I made my first one, who cut their own strips had trouble with wavy or bowl shaped rugs, maybe they used different batting then what the Katahdin is. The pattern isn't necessary. It doesn't have any special secrets.
