Josephs Coat
I have for quite a long time been considering doing a Josephs Coat quilt and have searched for awhile for a way of doing it that I can feel "doable". I saw a sew a long that seemed to have stopped abruptly in the middle, and finally I think I have found something that might work for me so I wanted to share with you all as it might be useful to some of you ladies and gentlemen of the board! The download is free
http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin.../josephs_coat/ I originally saw it as a link on this page - which is also useful if only for the visuals. http://www.swatchandstitch.com/thequ...lene-zimmerman |
Oh my, it would take me not only years for "thinking" about doing this, but years to finally finish it with all those curves! It's an interesting quilt though. Good luck with yours!

I think the revision made on the shape might make it easier on the curves than the traditional one...looking at the melon shapes they are not "complete' and I could be wrong but the templates look larger than I have seen before?

Oxmoor House published a book in 1996 Quilts from the Bible by Susan Cleveland. I found a used copy at local Goodwill store and Joseph's Coat pattern is in there with templates. I do a lot of scrap quilting and I've been looking at that one and wondering if I'm up to the challenge. NOT! Good luck with yours and please post your progress!!

Oh my, that second link close up reminds me of the wedding ring I'm trying to make now.

Quiltmon - thank you for the book recommendation, I will look out for that. I intend to give it a go - probably 2015 as I have a couple of quilts already lined up though I guess I could try it in pastel colours for a child's quilt. If I manage it I will be sure to post.

Thanks for the link. It is a lovely quilt, similiar to the Bali Wedding. another one for the inspiration list.

There is a set of templates available...I think by simplicity/ Darlene zimmerman(?) ....I bought and it makes machine sewing easier than hand sewing...which I tried first and gave up on.....I am now sort of collecting scraps for the melons....

I think someone posted a tutorial on here, maybe a year ago. I am trying to remember who it was. I have also been thinking about this pattern.
