Kwik Klip has gone out of business
The handy tool you use to pin baste a quilt is no longer being made. I logged on to their website on the 31st and saw a message that the cost of producing their Kwik Klip and pin covers was too much to stay in business. I put one in my cart and today there is no website. This is so sad.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I have two Kwik Klips and too many of the pin covers to count, and they make pin basting soooo much easier. They certainly save my fingers!
I just checked on Amazon, and they still have some in stock. I bought another pack of 200 pin covers. |
I have about a dozen Kwik Klips. When someone puts on on the free table I get it if no one else wants it. I find them at thrift shop in with the screwdrivers and other tools. I have a few still new in package I found on clearance from time to time. I have a shoe box full of the pin covers. I use to pin baste my quilts.

I've seen that some quilters use a grapefruit spoon with their basting pins
|
While DH can make me a replacement Kwik Klip tool if needed, I am very sad to hear the pin covers will no longer be produced. Hopefully another quilting company can pick up the design/production.

I think that fewer quitters are pin basting now. There are so many different ways to baste like 505, quick baste, glue baste, thread baste and fusible batting.

I started with thread basting. Tried having LA do the basting for me. Then on to safety pins using Kwik Klip and pin covers Then I tried pins with Pinmoors. Then found 505, then fusible batting. Went on to Elmer's School glue. Now I use Free Fuse. It's the best and easiest way so far for me.

I'm so glad I saw this post...I found some pin covers on Amazon and bought a pack of 200. Pin basting is my go-to method and the Kwik-clip and pin covers are the way to go. The only time I spray baste is when I'm using my embroidery machine to do my quilting.

Amazon lists them right now so perhaps if you love them, you may be able to still get some.

I use zippers and safety pins on my longarm and use the Kwik Klip all the time. It's a real time and finger saver. I'll have to carefully store mine now as I won't be able to replace it.
BTW- I just checked Amazon and they now list it as unavailable. |

That is sad that they cannot keep manufacturing them....I have a Kwik Klip my Mom bought me many years ago....and every time I use it, I think of her. It is very sturdy and will probably outlive me....I haven't used the pin covers so won't miss them.... just sad that another business is not able to keep afloat. (I did not read the article about it closing just replying to the messages here)

I've always used my seam ripper tip when I wanted to close basting pins. I never saw the need to buy the Kwik Klip.

I would agree that there are things that can be used to do the job that Kwik Klip does so well, but for me, it's the pin covers that are irreplaceable.
I've tried to use the Kwik Klip on pins w/o the covers, and there's just no comparison. So much easier and faster with the covers. Also, I love to see my quilt covered in all those pretty rainbow colored bits when I'm done basting it! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |
My granddaughter used the pins with covers to make all her elementary 100 day shirts for school. She filled in a shape (big heart, a tree, a decorated cake, etc each year) with the different colored covered pins. I still have a shoe box bin full of them.

Oh no...my bad! My cousin was quite a quilter, has dementia, and deteriorated very rapidly. I was give a bunch of her tools, notions etc. She had a lot of the pin clips in one box, and the tools in another. I had no idea what they were. Might have tossed them! Will need to go back through her things again to see if I kept them. I'm a pinner, so why did I not know what they were?!!

Thanks for the heads up. I don't pin baste often anymore but I do a little and the kwik klip is invaluable. So I ordered a spare. Since you all are speaking so highly of the pin covers I got a bag of those too.

Thanks for the heads up. I just found them on sale at Connecting Threads, and got them ordered.
