Logs in Logs Scrap Block
I was looking on Quilter's Cache for something and ran across this block. I love it! Thing of all the scraps you could use up with this one.
http://www.quilterscache.com/L/Logsi...crapBlock.html I may have to start a list  |
Similar to Court House Steps |
CashsMom ... so many times I have been tempted by that one too.
And one of these days, it will suck me in! :) *sigh* oh, but if there were only more hours in the day, year *sigh* |
I really like that! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I think I would change one thing--the final round on the center block is all the same colour. I think I would sew that strip to each of the corner blocks to help stabilize them. Then you wouldn't even have to use a paper piecing method and could use any width of strips.

Boy! I hear that!

Great quilt pattern.....but it's paper pieced! Would love to try a few blocks if it wasn't paper pieced.
|
I made a similar quilt and I posted a picture about a month ago. It was called “Roscoe” by Little Red Hen. It took 32 fat quarters. When all finished with the binding the quilt had 27 yards of fabric. I loved making it and gifted it to my son and DIL for Christmas. I will definitely make another!
|
Sure like the pattern but a 6"block? I would try it if it was bigger. I may "mess around" and see if I can work out a larger version. My scrap bin is too full for just 6 inch blocks.:D
|
Thank you for posting this Patrice. I love this pattern. A couple of years ago, I made potholders & mug rugs with it. Then I lost it. And I couldn't even remember what it was called.
I have never tried doing anything larger than mug rug size, but I will be doing more potholders. And somehow I missed Roscoe. I will have to go find him? her? :) |
Oh QE, I have also been tempted by this block. And I have a gazillion strips I can just get started with. I wouldn't PP, but start with a 1.5" square in the center and use 1" pieces for the courthouse steps ending with a 3/4" cut "frame. Then start with a 4P made of 1" squares and add 1" strips to make the triangle shape....hmmm....oh another project to think about!

Then being that the cat is away ... you should just play! :) As for thinking of night shift ... just keep thinking about it. Isn't that what the Grands are for? :) Maybe we should make it a challenge? But sorry, mine will be all PPing! |
Hey we should...you will more than likely finish first...but who cares...it's not a race! I've been thinking about it all evening!:D
Let's see GD#2 had BB game after school...GD# 1 had speech after school, then a BB game, and then played in Pep band for the Varsity game..GS#1 was her chauffeur...just when they get to be good help!!! Once they get home they have their chores to do at home. |

The hold up ... I just cannot decide which borders, white with blue or blue with white. Yea for your grands and being ever so involved. A chip off the ol' Grandma's block, I'd say! FYI .... I made the mistake and printed the block pattern out. Just.One.Block! |
LOL you have to start with just one QE..I may have found what to do in my afternoon playtime!

Maybe me? heck, what's another project? The way I see it is ... PP is a good way to be productive, when I want something mindless to sew! CashsMom??? ..... Are you with us and ready to join the challenge? After all, you started it, so you really do HAVE to! Of course you will .............. :) |
Patrice- what a great pattern! I had quite a year of quilt making and have loads of scraps!
Thank you! |
Okay, I have been playing...pulled out my 1" wide scraps...I have tons and started pieceing...I can't believe I"m saying this, but I think PPing it may be the way to go. Trying to get the center square the right size to correspond with the corner triangles is my bug a boo..I'm thinking my seam allowances may be a titch over a quarter inch, which makes everything off a titch. As much restitching as I did I think it will be...if I do it...a PPing project.
So I scrapped this piecing idea and started working on another miniature...PP flying geese...did I say PP'd?:D:p |
*gasp*
OKSGlad did you just say that you are PPing? *gasp* I need air!!!!!!!!!!! :) |
Guess you're gonna need to get an oxygen tank, QE!
|
I've kept this block pattern in my folder of "ideas" for quite some time. I'm currently still cutting and collecting strips and pieces for an Ohmigosh quilt. :)
|
Mariposa, you sound like me...I try not to intentionally cut those small widths, but "collect" them from trimmings off of other projects. Does this sound familiar?
|
It's a cool looking block, but the size is too small for me. I personally would double it and try not to paper piece it. Funny how you learn, over time, what your personality, mind, body, soul, can and can't handle.

I'm just pulling fabrics for the quilt pattern you gave me. And I still have the quilt for husband if it ever gets finished . . .
Besides, you will whip up the Stained Glass in no time and then ... will be looking for something else by the New Year! :) |
Patrice, are you going to paper piece it?
I haven't been very successful with this method but I have a couple of Craftsy classes I'm going to watch during the winter. I'd like to get better at it. |
