Lone Star fusible
FYI-I watched part 1 of an interesting YouTube video. She was having some camera issues but she was showing something I hadn't seen before. Apparently a company called Quiltsmart.com has come out with a fusible grid that you use rectangles to piece the diamond blocks of the Lone Star. They have other patterns as well but their web site could use some work. The title of the YouTube video is Episode 72 Lone Star Quilt Part 1 by Jean Truelove.

I've used one of their products to do a DWR tablerunner-as per Eleanor burns/quilt in a day- not a fan........but for others this type of help might be useful to expand technique knowledge.

This product has been around for awhile as I have taught classes for the lone star with it. It comes in 2 size stars and you cut rectangles, place them on the fusible, sew a seam then fold over and iron down. It works well to keep the bias under control but adds extra weight to the finished quilt. Quiltsmart also have a number of different patterns that are printed on fusible web such as 8 pointed star, as well as cell phone cases, handbag etc.

Actually, after I posted, I went to watch the video. She's a hoot! - jean truelove, is her name. I was intrigued with her video...I've never done a lone star, but now after watching the video, this would be one way to consider. I could only find part 1 of the presentation-hopefully there is another showing the rest of the process. I did smile at her comment about how the directions from mfg were so complicated....and she does explain the process. Then I clicked on a few of her other videos....she's good! She did the 10 minute block with a bid of a twist.....liked it!

When I made a lonestar years ago I had found a book in the library with a strip method. It was fabulous. Sew your strips as you normally would and then cut on the 60 degree angle. Definitely had to do some 'straightening' along the way to make sure everything was correct but otherwise it was a very easy method to do. Still had set in seams for the corners/sides but that was not horrible either. Sorry, don't remember the name of the book and this was about 15+ years ago.
