Machine binding

This way of machine binding looks interesting from Pinterest. Let's see if this link works. http://www.sewmamasew.com/2013/01/ma...ding-tutorial/

That is very interesting Tartan. I had not seen the technique of hiding the machine stitches before.

It's kind of like using the blind hem stitch to hem pants but using a zig zag. It does give an invisible look on the front of this scrap sandwich.

I used spool of white thread and a red bobbin thread to see which thread is doing what. You are sewing off into nothing on the right so that was a bit tricky to catch just the edge of the folded sandwich back on the left. The machine missed a stitch on the fold which left a unsewn spot. I had to remove the sandwich at the corner and start down the next side so the threads would need to be tied off and buried at the corners. This method might come in handy sometime.

I agree, Tartan. I was thinking that it was like putting in a "handpicked" zipper by machine using the blind hem stitch. It will probably take a bit of practice but would look like hand stitched from the front. The back will, of course, not look handstitched.

it's ironic that you have posted this... I just took a class where the instructor was teaching machine binding so I have been practicing on Christmas mug rugs. The first 2 I did a straight stitch now I am going to try a variety of overcasting stitches. I made 8 mug rugs in total and all need binding. Thank you for the post.

Thank you. I am going to try that today
