This morning on my PBS station

Mary Fons and a guest were making a very interesting crazy quilt this morning,. It started with a stack of 10" pieces. Pull up Fons and Porter and look at it. I think it's on their site.

My very first quilt experience was by cutting a 15" square into 5 sections then mixing fabric layers but keeping in order. Iwe then chain pieced together. It was fascinating. Ps all the cuts were straight lines.

I don't think that current episodes are able to be seen on their website. It is helpful to catch the episode number shown at the end of the show.

My PBS is doing a tribute to Bing Crosby:( He was ok but not for my PBS on my Saturday morning. My PBS has also replaced EB with Fit 2 Stitch.

I was surprised when my PBS station showed today 08/16 the episode 2401 called Cubbyholes.

I always record F&P and Quilt in a Day on Sat. I never know what I am going to be doing, this way I don't miss it and can refer back to it if I need to. Mine today is about "thread".

I think the one I saw (food related) was about the epidemic of diabetes in this country due to the over consumption of sugar.

Fons and Porter were doing the crazy squares on my PBS station on Saturday. I do crazy squares using an old sheet cut into 12 inch squares and then use my scraps of fabric to make the squares. Makes a real scrappy quilt block and then I sew them into a quilt.

That's how I have always seen crazy quilts done.

Saturday PBS F&P was the machine blanket stitch puppy dog. Sunday PBS F&P was an applique flower on squared borders blocks; forgot what country she designed her pattern from.

I set up my DVR to get Fons and Porter every sat at noon. This one was the paper piecing. I did find it in the link from Ms. Elaneous though, she has some good stuff! Thanks for that link, GrannieAnnie!

I can't find it I want to make crazy quilts did anyone find this? can you send me a link??

shayarene 08-19-2014 09:59 AM

how do you make a crazy quilt block? I have been trying to study how to do these, what do you do when you have a weird shape to fill in and can't figure out how to do it. I was going to do a sew and flip the piece over deal but tried to imagine what shape pieces to use, those things are not as easy as they look. My grandma used to make them all the time and she even used circular or arched like pieces, no clue how to do them, if I sew one on and try to open it up, won't it pucker up on me? I am so scared to start, I don't have much fabric and sure don't want to waste any, but want this to be very nice too??????
